Wheaton (Whhhheaton?) said that he thinks Wesley was the love-child of Picard and Crusher. I agree with him. That would make Picard's early antagonism and later support of Wesley a lot of sense. We know that Picard and Crusher had an affair.

This is an interesting idea I have never considered! What else made you think of this?

I remember seeing it on a commercial for Spike TV back when they showed (literally) 36 hours of Star Trek every week. I posted because since I've moved to Portland I haven't been around my Trek fan friends as much so I needed someone to discuss this with.

That's an interesting hypothesis, but I personally think that it's unlikely. When did this "affair" take place? There was an episode (the title I don't remember) on the planet Kespryt where Picard and Crusher were linked together with manacles which allowed them to share one another's thoughts. This is the first time that Beverly found out that Picard had been attracted to her in those days, and she expresses surprise that he never told her.

I remember this episode, but not the name of it. It was one of the later episodes of STNG. This episode was very interesting and does refute the idea of Picard being the father of Westley as far as I can tell!

Isn't it the one where they are on a planet that's politically divided over joining the Federation?

But the more I think about this theory, the better I like it. Not long ago I saw the third season episode "Evolution" -- Beverly has just returned from her stint at Starfleet Medical, and she wants to know what she's missed. She asks Picard what he thinks of Wesley, and he replies, "He's his father's son." Hmmm. What do you suppose he meant by that?

Most likely referring to Jack Crusher! In a later episode, Westley is on a planet to be given to the Cardassians, which is colonized by American Indians. He is on a vision quest. In this "Vision Quest", his father Jack Crusher in an older style of Starfleet uniform says something about not having to follow after him. Which means to me that Westley needed to find and follow his own path and not live out his father's life by being in Starfleet!

I'm sure Picard would of loved to start a family with crusher, but seeing as how he wanted to command a starship someday, he felt that family's would get in the way of that. instead, he introduced her to jack, and they kicked it off. Unfortunately he did in an away mission, and over the years Picard has become more of a father figure to Wesley.

At first Captain Picard was uncomfortable with Westley and all other children and young people. They did form a bond over the years. Captain Picard was good friends with Jack Crusher and was with him when he died. I don't recall if this was an away mission or the result of some sort of accident. Picard brought Jack's body back home.
