No one, and I mean no one has sexier ships than Trek does. I've been impressed with the JJPrise and many older ships of all affiliations. The purpose of this thread is to examine our favorite ship classes per faction by era and why.
Federation: TOS: Reliant. It takes the saucer of the Constitution class and removes most of the rest. It has crisp lines on the nacelles, which make it look fast and powerful. Even 25 years later, this model impresses. TNG: Galaxy. It may look like a swan to some, but this thing is like a Rolls-Royce to me. It's sleek, curvy and elegant. At the same time, it looks speedy and intimidating. The forward placement of the nacelles makes it look like it's always moving. DS9: Defiant. Unlike anything from Starfleet before its debut. Pulse phasers and actually maneuverable. The Defiant-class is like a Lotus: very small but more powerful than most anything. VOY: Sovereign. I'm counting the Sovereign as Voyager-era. It has classic nacelle placement, elongating it's look. Very angular, but slightly rounded at the connections.
I'll post for other groups soon. Let me know what you think and why.

Kijuro. I like you descriptions and comparisons of the ship classes! Are you going to do this for ships of other races after you do the Federation ships?

Yes, but I also would like to see what you all think, too.

What do you think of the "Constellation class" ? ...The one like Picard's old ship "Star Gazer"? I liked the 4 nacelle design, but think they could have configured it a bit differently. It could have used more power. Picard did say something about it being under powered and over worked and that the Enterprise-D was far superior to it.

The original Enterprise was a really radical design in its day. Most spaceships were imagined really streamlined like rockets, and if they had external engine pods, they were close to the sides of the vessel. Those long engine pylons made for a strange look in those days, but once you got used to it, its hard to imagine a starship looking any other way.
I still hold a torch for the original Enterprise, or perhaps the updated look for the first movie. The Reliant reminds me of a low-slung racing sled, but the look works somehow. I just wonder where the deflector dish is!

They just let the asteroids hit them.

They could not let themselves be hit by asteroids. They must have had some form of deflector system, but it would have be configured differently and may not have been so visible. In the "Enterprise" era, they had a deflector in front of the saucer section. Before that I don't know where it was placed.

Ok....you got me Kijuro! ;D
What do you think of the smaller Federation ship classes like the runabout or attack fighter which was used in the Dominion war and by the Maquise?

Hmm, never been much of a fan of lil' Starfleet ships. I did like the Romulan fighters from Nemesis, but that was pretty much all I liked from Nemesis.

I did like the "Phoenix" from "Star Trek First Contact" ! I like how Zefrem Cochran used a missile after the nuclear war head had been removed to launch his ship into space!

Oh, yeah. I did like that. It was overshadowed by B4, though.
