I understand dax.
I like talking with people from other countries. It is so interesting! When I meet up with some one with an accent, I always ask where they are from and often have a pleasant conversation with them.

I once knew a girl who was arabic. She joined my class when i was 10(im 12 now). She was a very interesting person to talk with and i loved learning about her culture and other things. She did not know much english so i taught her some and in turn she taught me some arabic. Also I remember when i first came back from Canada where i lived for two years(i moved there when i was seven) every body used to ask me because of my accent: Are you american?. That always used to bug me and my mom because we had to answer back about 7 times a day for the next 9 months until we got our english accents back: No we're Canadian. :)I also have an interst with African and Asian people. I study about there cultures at home and i listen to thier music. I love arabic and african music.

It is interesting though I must admit most of my contact with other cultures has been via the internet and my messageboards. I live in an area which is very "WASP" (White Anglo-Saxon Protestant!) - I looked at it's 98% white, about 96% of those are British and most of the British are English by birth.
And everyone talks with the RP accent except the people who've lived here for a long time. Occasionally my accent reflects a touch of West Country!

How many different accents are there in England? There are a number of different ones in the US.

You got all day? There's a different one for every region in the country. Let alone the country accents.
For a generalisation you've got the Newcastle area, the Liverpool area, the Manchester area/Yorkshire/Lancashire (they'd hate being put together but they do sound similar!), there's the RP southern accent, the West Midlands accents, the London accents, the West Country accents, the eastern accents, the south east, south west...and that's just England and that's not even comprehensive. Most of those are just groups of similar-sounding accents. There are slight differences between the Cornish and Devon accents for instance and the Yorkshire and Lancashire ones.
And there's Wales, Ireland and Scotland and THEIR regional accents.

I had no idea there were so many. There are a lot in the US. Mine in a NW one with a bit of great lakes are influence because my dad was from Michigan. My mother is from Oregon which is where I live.

Most of the people around me where i live have a sw accent but i dont really here it because im so used to it. I used to have a canadian accent but i couldnt even here my self change from canadian to english. I know a couple of farmers with the really extreme devonshire accent. I live in devon and even just in this small part of england there are many variations of accents.

In central Michigan, their accent is similar to a Canadian one. I lived there for a short time because my dad's family is from there. I have heard that Canadians can tell all the subtleties of their regional accents when others can't.
