I always enjoyed Seven more than Kes. I honestly thought Kes was a little boring. Seven gets ripped on a lot because most people think she's only there to be a pretty face, but I think she brought a lot more to the show. And if everyone doesn't mind, I'd prefer you just provide a link for youtube clips because of the stupid ad that appears next to it when you embed it. Personally, I preferred Kes over Seven of Nine. They're both beautiful ladies, but in their own ways. One thing I found interesting about Kes was the fact her race usually only lives nine years. They've had races with exceptionally long life spans (like Vulcans), but I don't remember any races with an exceptionally short life span -- especially as a main character on the show. I liked that she had a lot of growing to do. She had innate powers that she had to grow and develop to fully understand them and use them safely. One thing I didn't like was the only physical feature that distinguished her from other humans were her ears. You could definitely tell Neelix was from another race. I wish the Ocampas would have had more distinguishing features. Personally I thought Jeri Ryan did a great job as Seven of Nine. I think she's a wonderful actress. What I thought was a mistake was casting Jolene Blaylock as T'Pol in Enterprise. I never believed her as a Vulcan. She was literally only hired because they wanted Enterprise to be "sexier" than the other shows so they hired a model.

From what little I saw of VOY, I liked Kes, too. And I completely agree about Jolene Blaylock as well.

I always preferred Kes too Seven. Always found her too be a good addition too the crew with her personality and interest too learn. Seven has a limited interest too learn and with something her personality is a bit harsh even being integrated into the grew for a while.

Sorry to say but for me as a warm blooded male, this question is a bit of a no brainer. Seven of course, but the writers knew this hence thats why she was bought into the series in the first place.

I always thought that seven had a stronger personality than Kes and I think that is why I prefered her. Apart from the fact that she was borg and I thought that was really cool when I first saw her

I thought that I had already posted in this thread. I would have to vote for Seven of Nine. I found her to be much more intelligent and practical than Kes. I am aware that most of that is due to her transhuman augmentation, but that is part of her character. Also, Kes was far too soft.

I haven't watched an episode with Seven in it for very long. Years actually. I don't remember much of her, only that I was a bit sad when Kes went away and they took in the boring borg instead.
But I guess Seven did make the show a lot more interesting than Kes ever did.
I'll come back with a more qualified reply when I reach... season 4, that's when Seven comes in, isn't it?

I think so, it's after the first episode with the Timey-Wimey people but before the second ("Year of Hell"?) I seem to remember.

I would also have to say Kes, she's sweet. I would have to agree that Jeri Ryan isn't much of an actress at all. But I also really really just love the first few seasons of Voyager before Seven, although she did add some dimension and more Borg related episodes to the series, all this aside she is gorgeous, but I'm sticking with Kes

I think that Seven really gave Janeway a challenge(not that she didn't have any in the Delta Quadrent). The chemistry between Janeway and Seven was great! Although Kathryn had to look after the whole crew I think Seven posed the biggest challenge with the biggest rewards Without Seven, Voyager might have never got back to the Alpha Quadrant

There were some very funny scenes with seven Although I did not agree with the way Seven was always so sexed up, I do agree that there was more to her. The producers of Voyager were trying to hard to come up with new species they really did themselves and Jennifer Lien in with the Kes Character. If you think about it in most Trek series Humans are always the people with the shortest lifespan. They were tying to make a point by making the Ocampa live only 9 years. However they also messed up when they made the Kes character a child but she was doing big girl things, like dating Neelix who came across in the beginning as a dirty old man. Then they kept that idea going in season 2 Elogium episode when Kes asked Neelix if he wanted to mate with her. Seriously, you mean they had not already. So at least Seven had a bit of a past that gave the character some depth.
