The only thing is maybe the crew didn't believe a game could "addict" you with one or two plays - and that was what it did. Well, the very first time Riker tried it, he very obviously felt the "rush" in his pleasure center. That should have been a clue. And Beverly of all people should have been concerned. Plus, stimulating the pleasure center just doesn't addict people that quickly.

Understood Atoz about the speed of addiction, but this will vary a lot between people in the time, nature and severity of becoming addicted to something that is pleasurable.

Yeah, I loved the special affects. One of the things I loved most was the "darkening" of the series - not just more shadows, but overall, the coloring was less... Glaring. The CGI was the -main- reason I loved this episode, as well as the rules to live by and the banter between Wes and Robin. I too just never bought it that the -whole- crew would allow themselves to become wacko like the ones who were already addicted to the game. Not in that particular setting. Now, on Risa, I can buy it. It was a game, it was fun and pleasurable: that's the whole point of bieng on Risa. But on the Enterprise? Ok, maybe one or two friends - but the whole ship except for two people? I buy it that it was addicting, I just don't buy it that the whole ship was loaded with idiots. You'd think someone would have noticed something was wrong and worked to figure it out much, much sooner. I also don't buy it that a game, even an addicting one, would work to cause people to come under alien brain-washing. If that were true, then WoW could be used to brainwash it's more addicted players into deciding to become docile, domesticated housekeepers and diaper-changers, if the WoW owners so desired. It just. Doesn't. Work.

True. I can't see them just handing over the Enterprise because they were addicted to some game. You've probably heard of experiements with mice, when they were allowed to simply stimulate their own pleasure centers, they nearly starved to death, because that was all they wanted to do. But the same experiment, tried on humans, doesn't work. We have a lot more self-control than mice do.
