You're saying Kirk and Sulu still had to break into the computer room then. But the sergeant didn't remember it.

That's my theory at least. He was merged with another version of himself from an earlier part of the evening, so that his memories were confused. That's the only way I can make sense of it.

Did you notice when Kirk and Sulu are walking down the corridor and they're fascinated by the old fashioned cork bulletin board?

Oh yes. That's another thing we could add to the technology Star Trek predicted. We have electronic bulletin boards now. How quaint that must have looked to Kirk and Sulu!

This is one of my favorite episodes. I really liked when the officer that arrested Kirk threatened to lock him up for 200 years and Kirk says that should be just about right.
I've often thought a good idea for a fanfic would be what if Christopher did have an alternate set of memories, but with no proof, he knew he would look like a fool if he reported it. So after he retires, he writes a book or a story about it.

I once wrote a parody of this episode; don't remember if I ever posted it or not.
"What do you call that, a uniform?"
"This? Would you believe I was on my way to a Halloween party?"
"Halloween? It's JULY!"
"Would you believe I wanted to get there early, before all the punch was gone?"
