If you could have any technological device seen on any star trek episode made what would you have? This can be used for household help or to make the world a better place or for anything really!! Please explain your answer

This is a tough question because it's difficult to limit it to just one. A Replicator would be nice. This is partly for the convenience of having any food there when you want it, but also because of ecology. The way I picture it working, it would also function as a recycler. You leave your garbage in the tray, and the replicator breaks it down into its components and stores it, to be used again.

I would like to say a replicator as it is simply the best choice. But in terms of enjoyment, I find the holodeck to be an excellent investment.
I am finding it difficult to choose between the two. To be able to decide, I have to put aside my leisurely attitude and select the replicator, for the sake of convinience, not to mention all of the useful things that I can simply have "replicated".
Short of some fancy shoes to wear? Not anymore.

You know something that would be cool -- a holographic pet! You have a portable emitter probably no bigger than an ipod, and it generates a virtual dog or a cat.

And you wouldn't have to worry about them getting out of your cabin and getting lost on the ship! But overall, I don't like the idea. I love cats because they are alive. Although they have distinct personalities, they are unpredicable. And they feel warm lying on your chest and purring. I just can't imagine a machine simulating all that.

There was one episode where Picard rode a horse. That was pretty convincing.

That's true. Picard was certainly treating it like a real horse. I wonder if the holodeck can reproduce the warmth of a living body? I don't recall any situation that suggests an answer to that.

How about anti-grav cars? Come to think of it, though, when we see those scenes shot on Earth, we don't see as many of them as youd expect.

We generally see one or two of them flying around. Oh I see what you mean. If it was a major transportation system, we should see streams of them in the air. I never thought about it, but you could be right. How do you suppose traffic regulation would work with flying cars, anyway?

If traffic is bad on the ground, think how much worse it would be in the air! If I had a choice between an accident in a ground vehilcle and an accident in an air vehicle, I know for sure which one I would pick!
Obviously theres only a few air vehicles for special uses, which implies that most travel is still on the ground, unless everybody uses transporters. The problem with that is that judging by the series, trasnport is still a specialized skill (you have a Transporter Chief, after all), so I can't imagine that most people have personal transporters in their homes.

I see what you mean. I imagine transporter terminal at strategic locations in a city, like bus terminals or airports. That would still require getting from your house to the terminal. I suppose in the 24th century they would have an energy efficient mass transit system, something like an oversized turbolift system.

And if they havea culture where ownership isnt so important I can picture a system where people just swap cars, taking one when the need it and just leaving it when they dont.

I saw something on the news earlier about oversized busses they have in China now. They're designed so that they stand over the normal road so they don't take up space.
