"Never give up, never surrender!"
I'm starting this topic because I just got the new DVD -- well, I say new but it was released in 2009, and I just got a copy (the movie came out in 1999). I was going to make it a poll, but on second thought I've never met anybody who's seen it but didn't like it.

I didn't think I'd have to explain "Galaxy Quest" to a room full of Trekkies, but here goes. It's a comedy starring Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver and Alan Rickman (before Harry Potter), based very loosely on a certain television series you will all find strangely familiar. It is not a parody or a spoof, although you might get that impression from the first few scenes. Each time you catch yourself thinking, "Is that supposed to be Spock?", just put it out of your mind. Accept the characters for themselves, and it's hilarious!

That all may be true, sir but Tim Allen makes a great Captain Kirk!

No argument there. In one of the interviews, Tim Allen said that he was a Star Trek fan and that he'd always wanted to be Captain Kirk.
All three of the main actors were perfect in their roles, but my favorite was the chief engineer (played by Tony Shaloub). He cracks me up. He was supposed to be the technical expert, but in reality he didn't know an electron from a hole in the ground.

Thats the guy who was walking around saying how clean the floors were when everyone else was freaking out, right? Yeah, he was great.

If there's a Walmart where you live, you can probably pick up a DVD pretty cheaply. That's where I got mine. They had shelves and shelves of them but no takers.
