I am recording this episode tonight ( The savage curtain). It was one of the TOS episodes I liked, though not my favorite. I liked it because it had historical people in it both good and bad used to test humanities concepts of good and evil, by an alien who was made out of hot/molten rock..........What do you think about this episode?

I liked it, too, although as you say, not one of my top ten (or even top twenty, for that matter). The idea of being able to talk to an historical figure like Lincoln or Surak would be fascinating.

Atoz....I agree that talking to historical people would be an interesting experience. I recorded and watched "the savage curtain" last night. They did a good job on the alien who communicated with Kirk and Spock. I liked when he turned back and forth into his real appearance and back into a boulder.

It was a good episode I watched, however, my favorite will always be "Mirror, Mirror"

Atoz....I agree that talking to historical people would be an interesting experience. The drawback here is that they weren't really talking to Lincoln and Surak, but only to the equivalent of holodeck replicas, manufactured to be what they expected them to be. Do you suppose the Excalbians created some sort of androids?

Atoz I agree that they were only like holo deck replicas. They were probably being impersonated by the aliens themselves, but I'm not totally sure on this

I always thoght this episode was unfair. It looks like its four against four, but when you think aobut it, it's only Kirk and Spock playing a sort of solo game, if you know wht I mean. The excalbians didn't know about good and evil, so they were just having the other characters do what Kirk and spock thought they should do. Am I making sense?

Yes you are making sense Lucius. It was an unfair set up that if Kirk and Spock lost, everyone else on the enterprise would die to.

I expect the Excalbians were hoping for a whole landing party, so they would have a good spread of ideas about Good and Evil. But they had to make do with the two examples they had.
Presumably, Genghis Khan and Colonel Green were taken from Kirk's mind, while Zora and Kahless were taken from Spock's. Is it any wonder then that Colonel Green took charge of the bad guys, while Kahless sort of hung in the background? And what does it say about Spock that he considers Zora the biochemist one the most Evil people in history?

Appearantly Zora Was Doing Something Very Diabolical With His Knowledge Of Chemistry, As Spock Does Not Often Judge Unless Its Considered Serious Or Worth While.

Though the concept of good and evil being played out by people in the past is/was a great idea for an episode, I wasn't to impressed with this one. It was kind of dry to me...but then again, it was a few (or more than a few) years since I've seen it.
