This was a good episode, though sad. Archer was infected with some kind of parasite that prevented him from forming long term memories. In the time line the Xindi eventually destroyed humanity, but at the end the destruction of the nx-01 restored the time line and humanity was saved. More on this later.

I know, but I still love time travel and alternate reality stories.

Granted, but I think "Enterprise" used them too much, to the extent they almost got tedious.

Atoz, I admit they could have done a better job os some of the time travel episodes. It comes down to in part what a person likes as far as trek story plots go and how they are done.

I'm not trying to start an argument, Andrew, just giving you my initial reaction to the episode. I still recall this one only vaguely, but I do remember that the concept of memory loss itself fascinated me. We rely on our memories so much for our thinking, and it's very unsettling to discover that they aren't always infallible.

Captain Archer was very unsettled about his inability to form new long term memories due to the parasites. It would be hard to imagine going through this for 12 years or more like Archer did in the alternate time line. It would be extremely confusing and disorienting!!

Actually no, because he wouldn't remember those 12 years! Did you ever see the movie "Memento" (I think it was called)? It was about a man in a similar situation. He had no short term memories, and yet he was trying to find the man who murdered his wife. Every time he discovered a new clue, he tattooed it onto his body so he wouldn't forget it!

Atoz, I never heard of this movie. It sounds interesting! About Archer, I was referring to his having to go through all the confusion and disorientation for 12 years due to the inability to form new long term memories, not that he remembered anything after the parasites affected his daily memories afterward.

Sounds like an interesting movie! You should see it if you get the chance. The movie unfolded backwards, which is hard to get used to at first. But it was necessary to help you understand his frame of mind. He completely forgot things after just a few minutes, so anything that he didn't immediately write down just sort of went out of his mind. So every scene in the movie basically stands by itself, without any context (as far as HE was concerned, but the structure allows the viewer to see the context that he couldn't see). But this is taking us further and further from the topic...

Don't worry about it Zack. Atoz this sound like an interesting movie. I will have to see if I can find it. I bet this guy didn't have to be next to a warp core breech to remove parasites and restore the time line like Archer did.

This episode is not time travel per se. It is an alternate timeline. I liked this episode alot particularly because of T'pol's relationship with Archer (effectively married with Archer suffering from Alzheimers). I also liked the depiction of the Earth being destroyed by the Xindi.
