It has come to my attention that a lot of the things in the sci-fi world don't follow the laws of physics and i can prove it to
EX: star ships bank whenever they turn but yet they are in space where there is no atmosphere...*why the heck do they bank*
EX: the ships haft to face the direction they are going... in the 4th starwars episode when like has darthvader right behind him while he is trying to blow up the death star he should be able to whip the spacecraft around and shoot while still going the same direction
EX: if space is a vacuum then why do ships constantly need their engines giving off thrust and when they cut their engines they immediately stop if the laws of physics applied it would take them several generations to stop (since space is not a complete vacuum)
i have many other rants but i don't feel like typing all of them so to basically put it all star ships fly as if their in an atmosphere

Not just physics, but stellar geography also gets bent sometimes. I was watching "Quantum Leap" last week (on the Ion channel); two characters were talking about a specific star in the constellation Ursa Major. The computer gave the exact coordinates, Al even pointed to it. Then the camera cuts to a view of the stars, with the milky way running right across the center. The first thing I thought was, "Gee, Ursa Major is nowhere near the milky way; what are you pointing to, Al?" Then I realized that not only could I not spot Ursa Major, I couldn't see a single constellation I recognized! They must not have been on Earth anymore!

I notice inconsistencies and inaccuracies in sci-fi all the time and in other shows like real science shows. An example is that they will say that the speed of light is 186,000 miles per second, when it is actually 186,282 miles per second. Even non-fiction shows have things in them that are inconsistent if you know what to look/listen for! I don't like these inaccuracies at all!!!!!! I agree with both of you on these matters!!!!

I agree totally!! Especially those B-rate sci-fi movies! I saw part of one once where humans won a battle with crude bows and arrows against aliens with advanced weaponery....very unrealistic!! I don't even remember the name of the movie and I don't care. It was so stupid! A good story sci-fi or otherwise needs to be as realistic as possible to be any good at all!!!!

Shakfar. I guess I must be a lot more picky about these things than you are. I can over look inconsistencies if they are not too far off. The plot and acting must good though!

ok you have lost me there They were supposedly looking at Ursa Major, but Ursa Major wasn't visible in the sky! I suspect what really happened is the series' Art Director just painted a backdrop, throwing in the Milky Way because it looks pretty, and then dotting in a few stars at random, because he assumed that nobody would know the difference. This is the kind of thing that irritates me.

It's the simple things that they get wrong and are easily correctable that irritate me most! These things can easily be done right at low cost and effort!

lol this reminds me in the original starward films gorge lucase just cut out letters from black paper put it over a white light and slowly filmed the letters for the bigining of the movies (it must have been hard to stay the same speed) and as for the space battles their wrong because gorge lucase looked at a bunch of WWII movie and watched the dogfights and other producers just looked at starwars because it was the first sci-fi to be a movie and not a book
