Yes, that's why he was chosen for the mission.

I don't think he was chosen, was he? Wasn't he on leave or something, and accidentally stumbled into this conspiracy?

Yes, but you don't want to assign a well-known person to a covert mission.

He wasn't assigned, he found it by accident.

I was under the impression Picard was on leave and came across a suspicious situation involving the looting of artifacts from around the area. When he began to ask questions, He was abducted and it was made to look like he had been killed in a bar fight.

This "ancient artifact" idea also annoys me. If the Vulcans had all this superior technology thousands of years ago, why haven't they progressed any since then? This is one of the biggest flaws with ENT in my opinion. They depicted all of our current technology basically existing all the way back in the 22nd century, so that it looks like we've hardly made any improvement in the two centuries since then!

"Unification" is another nominee for the Y files. The elaborate plot to invade Vulcan with three stolen ships and only about 2,000 troops seems ridiculous on its face, at least to me. And if Proconsul Neral planned to betray them all along, why wasn't Spock arrested at once? Was there any reason for the charade except to drag the episode out to two parts? Even the subplot with the Enterprise tracking down the ship in the surplus depot, which could have been good, was pretty dull.

I sort of liked the Zakdonian that ran the supply depot though. Totally fixated on his job,but he knew everything about it.

"Elementary, Dear Data" is also a strong contender for the Y files. I didn't like it partly because I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan myself, and the episode gave the impression that Holmes never met a case he couldn't solve. This is wrong. Watson mentioned many cases that weren't solved; there was just no point in writing stories about them, he said. Which is obvious.
I also have a hard time understanding how the ship's computer could make a holodeck character actually sentient unless the computer itself were sentient.

You have a good point about a non sentient computer making a sentient hologram. It seems like it's taking a large leap in development where it isn't possible!

I'm wondering why they hardly ever show enlisted rank insignias!?! They exist!! I don't think it would be that difficult for them to be use in making a Star Trek episode! It's not like doing the rank insignias right are going to break the budget!!

Everyone's an OFFICER! Except for Simon Tarses.

Everyone's an OFFICER! Except for Simon Tarses. ;D No they are not. The Term "Star Fleet Officer" is sometimes used loosely referring to both officers and enlisted Star Fleet personnel. Simon Tarses is a crewman first class. You have seen a lot of Star Fleet personnel wearing no rank insignia at all haven't you?!?....more of a rhetorical question!
