I've just started reading Star Trek Gods of Night, and i must say im really enjoying the way novels can push human looking races out of the picture, and i began reading about this species, i've instantly taken a great liking to this Dr. Ree character in the book, this species is quite incredible, and i cant believe they would ever really function properly on a Federation Starship because of their appearance, anyway thoughts on the Pahkwa thanh? Woah, it's a dinosaur!
Actually, they sound like an interesting species - almost sort of, human in character in some respects. I can see why humans would be uncomfortable around them - it's rather hard to get over the resemblance to T-Rex...

It does look reptilian......What is it's charater like? Is it heartless like I would expect a reptilian to act or does it have some kindness?

Its a species that doesnt tolerate rudeness, even insults follow a strict system, but Dr Ree in the book ate at times when the crew wasnt in the mess hall, because he ate raw meat, and i found it rather funny when after he missed his designated time he thought to himself "Oh well, a bit of splatter never hurt anyone", but my own opinion is that i would enjoy the company of Dr Ree to no end, because although he is again one of the species that doesnt understand small talk he would find it an interesting habit to study and i would enjoy it with him.

I think it mentions on that page that they don't eat humanoids because they (humanoids) consider themselves "out of nature" and the pahkwa thanh don't consider it fair. Very polite of them!

As an exobiologist, I would have a hard time accepting this picture as a sentient being. It looks like a common monitor lizard. Its brain case looks much too small to be intelligent.
I think one of these is the Chief Medical Officer on the USS Titan, according to the novel I read ("The Red King"). One of the reasons I didn't like the novel is that just from the authors' description, I couldn't picture what it looked like.

Have you thought, that perhaps the majority of the brain was located elsewhere, leaving only the basic function to the head brain. Perhaps compartmentalised down along the inside of the spine. Certain dinosaurs needed an extra brain above the *** to react fast enough to threats.
