I like the occasional bit of romance myself as long as it's played right.

I like the occasional bit of romance myself as long as it's played right. Exactly, let's wait and see how this whole Uhura/Spock angle works out in the future before we're so quick to denounce it as dumb. At least this isn't Twilight and Edward/Jacob/Bella.

Spock/Kirk/Uhura? (Your Mileage May Vary as to combination)

No, no Kirk, he already lost the girl in the beginning. The hero doesn't always get the girl in the end. J.J. Abrams said this on the DVD commentary, "You would think Kirk gets the girl because he's the main hero, but he already lost her at the beginning." Let's leave it at that.

to me a trekkie by deffinetion is... we... ME! a person who can take an average conversation and turn it into a trek conversation, can but up a good trek debate, can give trek lectures, watches the movies and shows obviously and would definatly enjoye somthing trek related for a gift rather than a football or basket ball or other things most kids my age would enjoy

I would love to give Trek lectures, if only I could find people who would listen. By the way, Shakfar, I love the picture in your sig.

Why so bothered about Spock and Uhura? Sure, shippers need to perish from the Earth, but why hate something new? I look forward to seeing what they would do with this romance and how it could affect future stories. But I'm not getting wrapped up about it or treating it as a religion. I still agree it was weird seeing this unfold on screen for the first time. I think saying that "shippers" have to perish from the earth is a bit extreme. Don't you think some people might say that about "trekkies/trekkers"? Personally, I think that terms are just that. One person's interpretation won't necessarily match another's. The era of specifics in language is fast receding at least in western culture. A shipper doesn't necessarily treat a pairing as a religion. It's more about preference. Same thing with OTPs (one true pairings). It's all subjective, a matter of opinion if you will. I also look forward to seeing how the Spock and Uhura pairing in nu!Trek goes, but I'm also a fan of many other pairings running straight across the board of sexuality. After all, though some would deny it, Kirk/Spock was pretty much the first slash pairing. Or so I've been told at least. LoL Open-minds receive far more joy in life than those closed to the hidden pleasures of the world around.

That's true, Kirk/Spock was the first to be called slash (referencing the symbol) and first amongst the modern slash fandom. I think Sherlock Holmes fans were at it long before then though.
