I have a question, do you know if the Gorn are mentioned and/or seen on any other Star Trek episodes? My boyfriend found this at Fry's and surprised me with it. It's a bobble head Gorn. Isn't it neat?

That looks really cool! A Gorn appeared in the ENT episode that took place in the Mirror Universe. "Through a Mirror Darkly", wasn't it called? And I think I've heard of a Star Trek novel in which the Gorn appear, but I don't know the title (I don't read those much). memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Gorn

But obviously the Gorn in ENT is a different subspecies. It has a tail for one thing. The Gorn in "Arena" has a broad, blunt snout, rather like an American alligator. The one in ENT is much more gracile in appearance, more like a velociraptor.

Thanks for the link - I checked it out and the Gorn looks funny to me, guess I am used to the original one. But if it's a subspecies then that would explain it although it'd be nice to see the original species back in action.

Very nice.
Gorn is also a term used for Torture Porn in horror movies or extreme gore movies.

I was about to start a topic on the ep "Arena" and just decided what the heck may as well use this space! As you remember the Enterprise was lured to the outpost Cestus III by a measage from Commodore Travers. Wehn they beam down they discover the place has been blasted to pieces, and gorn are attacking.
I was wondering what you think of the Gorns tactics in that fight.

Okay, it looks to me like they wiped out the outpost, then they found out from the records that a starship was patrolling nearby, so they had to take out the Enterprise too. The thing is, the didn't have any idea of the Enterprise's capabilities, so the Gorn captain decided to give himself an edge by luring the tactical staff down, where a ground assault team could ambush them. Then, you notice, the Gorn ship opened fire, keeping at extreme range. They must have had some pretty tough weapons, because even so Sulu decided to leave orbit to get some maneuvering room. Then, the Gorn must have decided the Enterprise was too much for him, so he beamed up his assault team and tried to make a break for it. That about cover it?

Ah that's what had botherd me. I was wondering how the Gorn ship could put down a landing party to attack Kirk when up in orbit Sulu was saying they were still outside visual range. So the assualt team had been left on the planet, under cover behind that hill?

But what about the Metrons? Do you think their interference was a little heavy handed?

You got a point there, sir. The ships were trespassing in their space, but they were doing warp 8! IF they'd just waited a second, they'd have been gone. So it looks like they were a little eager to jump in on something that wasn't their busiiness.

The Metrons were an elder race, you might say. The Metron who finally spoke to Kirk at the end said he was 1,500 years old! You know what this reminds me of? An adult breaks up a fight between two children on the playground, then she gives them both boxing gloves and tells them to settle it. And once they've worked off their aggression, the children see how silly their argument was.

You could say that letting the two captains settle it was still better than letting the ships go at it with phasers and photon torpedoes.

That's true. Theres probably a lot of colateral damage when those photon torpedoes let fly. I don't know what the Gorn had but it was probably something just as bad.
