That reminds me of one of my pet peeves from the Star Trek movies. I don't know whether to bring it up here or in the technology thread, but what the heck. I'm talking about photon torpedoes. I was watching "Nemesis" again a few nights ago, and in that movie the photon torpedoes look like they have approximately the impact potential of spitballs! I mean seriously. You've got dozens of torpedoes splatting away at the shields and the just go poof-poof-poof! They don't look as if they had enough energy in them to warm a cup of tea! Whereas from the series we know that photon torpedoes are horrendously destructive! One torpedo can literally disintegrate a starship as we've seen time and time again.

Oh right. I remember once the Enterprise had to fire a torpedo at something really really close, but they couldn't because at that range they said the torpedo would have destroyed the Enterprise too! It's so easy to underestimate how powerful they are from waht you see int he movies.
