Hi guys, My brother is a trekkie, and i vaguely remember watching an episode with him where Worf had to fight for a woman, and it was called Ponfar.... but looking on the net i can only see stuff relating to spock and ponfar....
? Can you help? I had planned on making a replica sword thing (sorry fans!) that worf had used for my brothers wedding, but if it doesnt relate to the ponfar thing, the symbolism is all wrong... can anyone help? Thanks

Pon Farr is the Vulcan mating drive which strikes every seven years. Klingon sex is pretty violent, but as far as I know they don't actually fight each other with weapons. In a way, I think they are similar to Terran cats. If you've ever seen or heard two cats mating, you know what I mean. The female doesn't start ovulating until the male bites her on the scruff of the neck. He has to get a firm grip and literally hold her in place, because coitus is so excruciatingly painful, she'll throw him off otherwise.
In "The Emissary", Worf and K'eylehr mated during one of Worf' strenuous "callisthetics" programs. But they didn't fight one another, and they didn't go through the formal marriage ceremony. You might be thinking of "Reunion", a later episode where Duras murdered K'eylehr and Worf challenged him to combat (with bat-leth, the Klingon sword) in revenge. Either way, I'm not sure a bat-leth would be an appropriate wedding gift.

Steph, I've been thinking about this some more. If you're good at sculpting and you want something that symoblizes love, what you want is a horghan. It's not Klingon, but if he's a Trekkie, he'll know what it is, and it's probably more appropriate. memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Horga%27hn
