This was a weird one. The landing party beams down and starts seeing things that can't exist. Alice in Wonderland, knights in armor, tigers, samurai, strafing airplanes. And Finnegan!

It's definitely one of my favorites. It was a lot of fun watching them react to these strange things that suddenly popped up for no reason.
I have to wonder, though, how the machinery could turn out androids (if that's what they were) so quickly? And them pop them up through secret tunnels or something?

They were made from cellular castings so I guess they had a machine that just stamped them out. Id guess from the first moment they beamed down, the machine was going, "HUmanoids! Prepare the humanoid X433a forms!" Or something.

Yes, I wonder if the Caretaker was really humanoid or whether he just assumed that shape so that the Enterprise people would be more comfortable with him. Do you supppose he was a Q?

I would think taht the Q wouldn't need all that machinery. And can you picture Q needing an amusement park?

You're right there. Q wouldn't bother. But I can't help thinking they used shortcuts of some kind. It would be very wasteful of energy to have built a factory to turn out that one airplane just to strafe Rodriguez and Martine.

Short cuts like what for example? Are you thinking of holograms or force fields like the hoklodeck uses?

Something like that. I was thinking there would be a generic mold for certain kinds of things, but an external coating that could change color or texture to model different specific objects. The airplane that Rodriguez saw, for example. It could be a generic "flying object", but at the last second changes into a Zero. (Those were Zeros, weren't they?)

Zeros yes. And yet the mold for Sulu's gun would have had to be pretty specific. The weird thing is... well just think of the way your mind flits from one topic to another when your just walking like that. It must have been apretty sophisticated machine to sort thorugh all that gunk and come up with something concrete.
