Apparently the computer can find your location just by your comm badge. But it also keeps track of you by other means too. Alexander isn't issued a commbadge, but in "Cost of Living" the computer was able to find him when Worf wanted to know why he was late for his counseling session. And in "Reunion", after Duras killed K'eyleyr, Worf left his comm badge in his quarters, but the computer was still able to tell Riker that he was no longer aboard the Enterprise.

That was probably because his transporter trace signal was detected. And whoever beamed him over would have logged it in too probably.

Well, true. That's what I'm saying. The computer uses other means than just comm badges to keep track of where everyone is.

Didn't Voyager mention at one point that they keep track of brainwaves or something like that? (I frankly thought it a bit ridiculous but...)
