I've been wondering why these two didn't end up together. They had so many tender moments and chances, and they are really good friends. Chakotay says on many occasions that she means a lot to him, and Janeway at least once said she couldn't imagine a single day without him.
What do you think? In-show reasons or reasons for the creators to not let them be together.

I SO think they should've got together. In-show reason, maybe Janeway felt that as Captain she should maintain a certain distance. But the UST there arrrgh!

They really should ;_; the episode where they got left on a planet because of a virus was so heartwarming.
In-show, I think it's partly because what you said, and partly because even though she knows it might be 70 years until she sees Mark again, she doesn't want to be unfaithful.
But mostly, I think it's because the writers thought it was a too easy romance. They fit together like a hand in a glove and they have almost never been angry with each other or anything. Because they go so well with each other, the writers probably wanted more action and suspense, and decided to not let them have each other. BAD! We'd want it!
But if the latter reason is true, why did they let Paris and Torres be together? True, they are a more unlikely couple (at least in my eyes) and would for that reason seem more interesting for the writers, but still.

Do you know that they are married to each other in real life? That's why the writers don't put them together in the series and did that last sentence make sense or not? I don't know. You decide for me pleaze. ok? ok!

Well, yes, the sentence made sense but the basis is incorrect since they aren't married in real life. No idea about Robert Beltran but Kate Mulgrew is married to a politician named Tim Hagan (he proposed to her on the set of Voyager!) and before that she was married to a Robert H. Egan.
(I didn't realise until I looked them up just now just how close in age the majority of the main cast is - most of them are in their 50s now.)

Hmmm I think it would have been great if they were together!! In that episode when they were left on the planet I was literally on the end of my seat waiting for something.. anything to happen! But in the end, not much really did happen which I thought was a real shame. Dromeda, as you said, Janeway is a very loyal person and I think she would have felt guilty if she let anything happen between her and Chakotay. Again it was a shame though x

i think they didnt get together because like jayneway says in the episode where they start hallucinating because of the telekinetic race she doesnt have the luxury because shes the captain shes supposed to keep a certain standard to the crew and she doesnt want to be unfaithful to mark back on earth even though it seems like she will never see him again plus it would be classed as fraternization and that isnt really allowed among the senior staff although tores and paris seem to be an exception but i agree with what dromeda said they got along too well to be in a relationship and it would have quickly got boring unlike tores and paris they were constantly arguing

I'm not very familiar with VOY, but my reaction is that Starfleet is not "really" a completely military organization, so the regulations about fraternizing are not as severe as they are in most military units. That said, a captain should be very, very careful how he or she relates to the officers under his or her command.

That's true. Back in the 21st century for example they had regulations aobut an officer having relations with a person under his command.
