Well hello everyone! As odd as it sounds, I only recently started watching Star Trek -- the Original Series, currently, and only seen the first handful of episodes so far.
I was born and raised on Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, but while my dad was a big Trekkie, I never saw a whole lot of it, nor was I particularly interested. I mean, I watched a few episodes and clips here and there, but as I hopped from interest to interest (science fiction, fantasy, video games, fantasy, anime, fantasy, back to science fiction...) I never held an interest in getting into the Star Trek universe, as it just seemed to me to have far too much going on and too much to watch. But this doesn't mean I didn't like Star Trek. I've always highly respected trekkies, just because I think all forms of nerds are absolutely amazing, and if it was science fiction, then I was sure it was worth enjoying. I even had favorite characters (Spock, Data, and "the guy with the thing over his eyes", just because he had a thing over his eyes) and knew basic characters and races and things through my dad.
When the recent movie came out, I was super excited and began really hoping they would do more with it, especially since they gave it a nice reboot. Watching it, I got new favorite characters, and new reasons to love characters I already liked.
So anyways, recently I somehow came to the decision that I wanted to watch the old Star Trek. I don't even remember how it happened really; it sort of came out of nowhere. Maybe a combination of the movie making me realize how much I love certain characters, the semi-recent introducing of "Trouble with Tribbles" and "Trials and Tribblations" to my 10 year old brother (which was followed by a long discussion of Star Trek between me and my dad (which was followed my me naming my new external hard drive Data)) and the fact that I friend I made just last year has seen all of it and had talked to me about it.
Somewhere between all that I started watching it. The first episode, I was fascinated. Second episode, I was in love. I was baffled at how I'd managed to miss for so long how amazing this was. It had great characters and absolutely fascinating story lines.
So in case you didn't know, Star Trek is AMAZING and I'm super excited about watching!
