Okay, I have a question about this episode. After seeing it again and after watching all 3 seasons...do you think that the ending was kind of weak on Captain Kirk's side? I can understand how it might not be possible for Charlie to exist with us because of his power but the fact that Kirk let him go so easily was quite shocking...mostly after Charlie's emotional plea.
Which brings me to my next question, Do you think Charlie could of been rehabilitated?

Well, when you look at it, Charlie himself was nearly more than they could handle. Would you have wanted to fight a full fledged Thasian?
That is a tough question. I tend to agree with the Thasian. The only way he could learn not to use his power (or to use it more wisely) would be in an environment with other people with the same powers. In other words, the Thasians might be able to teach him, but on a normal planet, there would have been no chance. It is kind of interesting to speculate where Charlie is today. Would he still be alive?

Nah, wouldn't want to fight a Thasian but it just seems inhumane to leave a human on a planet with aliens he cannot really associate with. Remember Charlie saying that he couldn't even feel them. If he was a danger to those around him without power, maybe we could of sent a few scientists or something to live with Charlie and the Thasians. After all, one of the objectives to searching space was to find new alien life and to learn more about them. Isn't that what happened a few episodes later with Balik? As for the question about Charlie still being alive today, that would of made an interesting follow up episode on TNG, Voyager, or DS9. He could of grew in his power and either forced his way away from the Thasians or he could of somehow escaped again. Wonder if he learned how to cope with his enormous power?

About not being able to touch them I kind of got the impression in the end that the Thasians brought him over to their dimension in the end. So they'd be on the same plane they were. does that make sense?

I never really thought about it before, but I think you're right. The Thasians came to collect him, and he disappeared. At first I assumed they had just beamed him over to their ship (or the equivalent), but all in all, the only solution to the problem at the point would have been just to bring him over to whatever dimensional plane they inhabit.

You have to wonder how he got those powers to begin with. Did the Thasian partially "ascend" him to their level? In that case it only makes sense that he would eventually learn to use them more maturely. I doubt he could travel through space with them, though, so I guess we're safe.

Charlie was a teenager to the Thasians as well as humans, so he would indeed mature in time and possibly rejoin society .... that would be an interesting book.

This is a very interesting episode and raises many human issues, especially with regard to adolescence. The issue was that Charlie didn't know how to behave in front of people and how he didn't grew up surrounded by humans, he had not limits on his own wills. One of the most interesting things in this episode is the fact that he has not done so well for the boy.

I remember the first crush I had on a girl. If I'd had powers like his I don't know if I'd have handled it any better.
