By that I mean graphic novels, books, games, audio etc.
Any you recommend? Any to avoid?
I'm reading quite a good one called The Children of Kings by David Stern at the moment which is set in Pike's days as Captain of the Enterprise.
(Also, I want to know which ones to look for on the rare occasion I allow myself to go near Forbidden Planet. When I've got money to spare because I always seem to end up with a book!)

There was a series of adaptations of TOS episodes by James Blish (published back in the 70s). I don't know if they're even still in print because I haven't seen them in a while. Actually of the novels I've read, I can't think of any I'd recommend, but that's purely a matter of taste.

Actually, I think I've got a couple of them from a second-hand bookshop! I haven't read most of the stories yet because I want to watch the episodes first THEN read the adaptation.

I'm surprised! I've never seen these adaptations in second hand shops! I always assumed that the only people who would have bought them in the first place were die hard Trekkies, likely to keep them for sentimental reasons if for no other.
Be warned, James Blish was working from the original shooting scripts, so sometimes he deviates from the televised version. Plus some of the earlier volumes are cut down in length. But I think you'll enjoy them. I still get mine out and read them every now and then.
