Felis Cattus, is your taxonomic nomenclature, an endothermic quadruped carnivorous by nature? Your visual, olfactory and auditory senses contribute to your hunting skills, and natural defenses.
I find myself intrigued by your subvocal oscillations, a singular development of cat communications that obviates your basic hedonistic predilection for a rhythmic stroking of your fur, to demonstrate affection.
A tail is quite essential for your acrobatic talents; you would not be so agile if you lacked its counterbalance. And when not being utilized to aide in locomotion, it often serves to illustrate the state of your emotion.
O Spot, the complex levels of behaviour you display connote a fairly well-developed cognitive array. And though you are not sentient, Spot, and do not comprehend, I nonetheless consider you a true and valued friend.

I love Data. It was kinda funny in that scene when Riker was falling asleep and Deanna nudged him only to make him end up thinking that Data had finished and he started clapping in the middle of the poem.

;D I loved the "Ode to Spot" poem. It was so clever and a bit amusing, though it wasn't meant to be. It was so very Data typical. I think CMDR Riker should have had a strong cup of coffee before Data's recital, so he wouldn't have dozed off. He missed a good one!

That is neat. I remember hearing that poem, just never could spell anything that he said to write it down.

LOL. For some reason, I burst into laughter during the "Oh Spot" part always. It's supposed to depict emotion to add that kind of thing to an ode and the fact that there's so much scientific description surrounding it makes me laugh so hard.
Anyway, Brent Spiner must have practiced reciting this poem a long time before he was able to memorize all those words and pronounce it all so smoothly. I can pronounce all the words out loud, but that doesn't mean I can do so smoothly or easily.
And that poem must have taken FOREVER for the writer of the script to write. I do agree with Geordi's assessment of the poem. It was "clever" and must have been hard to write.
