That would be a good idea. I was just worried that someone might come into this topic thinking it was really a discussion of how holodecks work, and suddenly find himself in a food fight. If you were to start a thread somewhere (maybe the Minigames) and call it "Food Fight" or something, there would be no problem.

That is an extremely deep and philosophical question, Mr. Data. Naturally the Vulcans would say that they don't "hate" the Romulans, since hate is an emotion. I would suppose it is because of their basic difference in philosophies. The Vulcans were once just as emotional and warlike as the Romulans, but they turned away from the attitudes that encourage violence. The Romulans resent the fact that Vulcans are related to them, but don't share their martial philosophy.

i didn't realize that was extremely deep and philisophical. is it true that the romulans developed the cloaking device on their ships and how did the klingons were able to acquire that technology? by the way thanks for answering the ist question.

Glad to be of help, Mr. Data.
Yes, the Romulans first developed the cloaking device way back in the Original Series episode "Balance of Terror". It wasn't a perfect cloak back then, because the Enterprise could still plot their movement with motion detectors. They just had to fire phasers blindly (which turned out to be good enough, considering that it was James Kirk giving the orders). Later on, they developed a much improved version.
I really don't know how the Klingons got hold of it. Rumor has it there was a short-lived alliance between the Romulans and the Klingons. The Romulans were still behind in their engine technology, so they traded their cloaking technology for Klingon starship designs. But then the Romulans turned out to be "dishonorable" by Klingon standards, so the alliance was broken off. I think the massacre at Khitomer had something to do with it.
There's a neat website called Memory Alpha which has a great deal of information about Star Trek if you want more details than I can give you right off the top of my head. But if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

I think the massacre at Khitomer had something to do with it. You mean the masacre at Narendra III, don't you sir? Khitomer was a lot more recent.

Yes, you're probably right, Luke. Narendra III was where the Enterprise C intervened to save the Klingon colony from a Romulan ambush (as depicted in "Yesterday's Enterprise"). I realized I had mis-spoken just after I posted that, but then I decided to leave it to see if the rest of you were on your toes. At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
