How we can have a forum without a place to talk about the SHIP I don't know, lol. So here's some interesting things I've noticed. The Ent-D is the largest ship ever, yes? Federation ship anyway. In the first episode when picard is doing the narration he says how much more kick-butt the ship is than any other type. So the things they mentioned or showed that were cooler than any other? Holodecks. First class to have em. They state that in the Sherlock Holmes ep. And Pulaski seems petty impressed by them, like this is all new. That begs the question of how Janeway could play that flotter program as a girl, several decades before holodecks were invented! The personal computer tech was more advanced than on VGR too, since they have holo-displays. why these disappear is anyones guess...maybe they caused eye cancer?! lol, anyway...that's just Holodecks...Their astrometrics was the best ever too. weapons and core-egections were notorious for failing at inopportune times though And they apparently gave up landing struts for more holodeck/schoolroom space!

Doesn't it seem odd to anyone that the Galaxies carried children and families and all that? That doesn't seem like a good situation to me. For one thing, if the ship explodes the 400 crew AND 600 civilians get killed (I don't know if those numbers are right, it's a guess.) That happened to the YAMATO. And in Generations there was a big panic to get all the kids off before they get killed. If there's a red alert all the crew would be tripping over 5-year olds!! Maybe that's why the ENTERPRISE-E has no kids. Picard: "CHILDREN ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE BRIDGE!!" lol, you tell them, Jean Luc!!

well the thing is the galaxy class was fit to hold that many people...Enterprise-E is a battleship...D is a "explorer"
interesting comment on the holodecks about janeway..i never thought about that lol that does cause some controversy regarding to when they were created..maybe we should go to startrek.com and smack them around haha

Ent-E is clearly designed with cool space battles in mind . As far as Janeway is concerned...Continuity error does seem to be implied, unless Riker, Picard and Pulaski were all from some backwater planet that had no tech. The term "Berman wants more friggen holodecks" also comes to mind. Anyway, to get away from the holodecks for a second, It occured to me that this topic should include stuff on the ENTERPRISE-E also! two birds with one stone. The Ent-E is an really awesome ship, right? There is one thing that really bothers me about it though. How big is it?? The first time I saw FC is was young and it scared the you-know-what out of me. But on the next 3000 watchings, I noticed a problem (that everyone probably already knows about). Picard clearly says the ship has 24 decks. Then a crewman comes to the bridge and clearly says "The borg control decks 26 through 11." What?? where the heck did deck 26 come from? I explained this away at the time, rationalizing that Picard was right and the crewman, who was bloody from hand-to-hand with borg and probably traumatized by watching his fellow crew turn borg, simply misspoke. Ahhh! Then Nemesis. Deck 29. WHAT??!! The ship doesn't look bigger to me. And Data we can be certain did NOT misspeak. Whew!

The Ent-D is the largest ship ever, yes? Federation ship anyway. The Sovereign class beats it in length. But other than that, yeah.

That begs the question of how Janeway could play that flotter program as a girl, several decades before holodecks were invented! It's likely she "played" a much simpler version of the program when she was a child (think of the old Atari versions of video games versus the CGI games we have today). Virtual reality programs were probably commonplace, but none as sophisticated or as immersive as the true "holodeck" found on the Enterprise, which was why Ryker and Pulaski were so impressed. But the idea of a holodeck character actually becoming "conscious"? Don't get me started on that!

well the thing is the galaxy class was fit to hold that many people...Enterprise-E is a battleship... That's why I didn't care much for the Enterprise-E. As Guinan said in the episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" -- "This is not a ship of War, this is a ship of Peace."

Now I will point out the ouvious reason why Janeway could hae played the holodeck programs when she was a child, befor the Ent-D. I was said that the Galaxy class were the first CLASS to have them, that doesn't mean that their weren't any one the planet, maby on jupiter station, seems logical to have them there, after all, Zimmerman lived there, and it would be hard to make and test a EMH if you don't have a holodeck.
Now personally I think that Voyager was a better that the Ent-D, Voyager had gelpacks to augment the computer, Ent-D did't. Ent-D was a big cumbersome ship, Voyager was a quicker, more agile Intrepid. Ent-D was slower than Voyager... the list goes on, and yes Ent-D was a ship of exploration, not battle like Voyager.
As for the Ent-E, well Voyager could take it on, Voyager did have borg enhanced weapons, sheilds, sensors, ect.

And obviously holodeck technology is not universal. Lwaxana Troi obviously had no experience with holodecks when she first came on board the Enterprise, and she was an aristocrat and an ambassador. Was that just because she was older and more set in her ways? Or did the Betazoids simply not use holodecks?

Or she simply chose not to use them?

Surely she would have at least known what one WAS, wouldn't she? Later on, in "Cost of Living" for example, she didn't have any problem using one.
