Since the original series aired there have been hard-core trekkies that have wrote fictions involving the Enterprise crew,or Star trek themes. These stories have been published and enjoyed but some written stories are not "pro" Trek, they are published anyway. they slander Rodenberry,Kirk, and Star trek in general. they would be ok if they weren't considered "fan" fiction and printed with the Star Trek logo.

I'm not sure what you mean. I don't read many of the published novels anyway (because they never seem to get the characters right, in my opinion), but what do you mean by slandering Star Trek in general? Can you give me an example?
In general, I'd say that the humanistic ideals of the Federation are what make Star Trek unique. If somebody writes a novel that disparages those ideals, I would not approve, or consider it Star Trek.

It suddenly dawns on me that you might mean MY parodies! If that's what you mean, I'd appreciate it if you came out and said so. I don't mind you criticizing me to my face, because that would give me a chance to explain why I write them. And I promise I won't snap your head off.

I have read a number of star trek novels and short stories of which some I would rate as very good and other's were poorly done and incomplete, as far as I am concerned. leaving loose ends and contradicting other's. There needs to be consistency. I am saying that if there is inconsistency, the story should make it clear that it's about another time line, alternate reality universe or a what if type of thing. I am not picking on anyone here . I think things should be accurately labeled to avoid confusion and disputes about if its cannon or not. I have nothing against parody. I write parody's of things.....not star trek though. As far as trek fan fiction goes any one can have a bias that shows up in their work bad good or otherwise.

Sometimes these fans have what they think is a clear picture of a character (the way he behaves) which doesn't match my picture of the way the character behaves. That's why I think only the series as they were broadcast should count as canon.

I agree with Atoz on the portrayal of characters. I think that if I were to write a star trek story, I would do a lot of research of the characters I wanted to write about and focus on the ones I could relate to/portray most accurately. I would make it clear if the story was cannon or not as I said in my earlier post on this topic.

Yes, of course. But do you have any idea what novels Derekh is talking about? He seems to mean stories which deliberately "slander" both Roddenberry and Star Trek itself, and these novels carry the Star Trek logo, meaning they must have been approved by Paramount Pictures.

Oh, then I guess I don't. I meant like Star Trek New Voyages.

Well Zach I'm Glad You Asked, Like It Or Not, Love Me Or Hate Me, I'm A Christian. As It Is I Wear It As A Symbol Of My Faith And Relationship With Our Lord And God Jesus Christ. It Often Calms Others In The Hospital When They See Me And It. I Appreciate You Asking Me Zach. ^_^
