I have always liked it when a character has crossed over from one series to another such as in the stng ep "Relics" I felt bad for Mr, Scott who had been inside of a transporter for 75 years, to find himself feeling obsolete and useless in the 24th century. One thing I am fascinated with is the concept of the Dyson sphere. Which is a very large object constructed around a star to capture all it's energy output. It would be an incredible feat of engineering to build one!.......The best choice for a star to have a Dyson sphere built around it would be a small red dwarf star. Easier to build because the star is small and practical because red dwarf stars live alot longer than larger stars. In the episode "relics" the star had become unstable and the dyson sphere abandoned....I'm not sure how large the star was, but probably more mid sized like our sun "Sol"

What I forgot to mention is that why Mr Scott was inside the transporter system. It was because they had crashed into the dyson sphere with major damage to their ship with not enough supplies to survive until they could be rescued. What do you think about this episode, character crossovers, and dyson spheres?

Dyson spheres were written about in science fiction years ago, and it was great to see something like that appear on Star Trek. Have you read "Ringworld" by Larry Niven? That was a more modest situation, an artificial planet constructed as a ring completely circling the star. I've never thought about the age of the star having anything to do with it, since even G-class stars like ours last billions of years.
It was nice to see Scotty again, too. I normally didn't like the concept of bringing the older characters into the future, but this one was handled well.

Atoz. I have never read the novel you mentioned, but it sounds interesting. Our sun being a G-type star will be stable for about another 4-5 billion years before expanding into a red giant. Its middle aged now. The rule is that the larger the star, the hotter it burns, causing it to use its fuel up faster. If it is large enough, it will explode....a super nova! Smaller stars like M type red dwarfs burn much cooler, use a lot less of their fuel, and live a lot longer...trillions of years. This is why I said that a red dwarf star is the perfect candidate to build a dyson sphere around, which could take a very long time to build!

I also liked Scotty alot better than La forge. La forge was OK and he had his moments, but paled in comparison to Mr Scott.

But because they're so cool, M type red dwarfs would be very unlikely to evolve intelligent life, too. But I see what you're saying, the aliens come come from a nearby system.

Fascinating Indeed! As We Can Put A Forcefield Around A Star Easily, And Harness Its Power With No Effort. We Use A Device Called A S.E.A.F ( Star Energy Acquisition Forcefield.) As The Star Is At Our Complete Control! We Can Also Reverse Its Energy In On It Self And Cause It To go Nova! But We Only Do That When We Have To.

Atoz A planet orbiting a red dwarf star would have to be very close to that star to be in the "habitable zone" Another factor is how much green house gasses are in its atmosphere, size and composition of the planet. A planet very close, or moon very close could become locked in position in its rotation unable to spin in its orbit and generate a magnetic field to protect itself from cosmic rays that are harmful to life forms

Well, basically you have a ship, you start out with a lowly frigate and try to get up to a battleship and/or own a fleet. The weapons are phasers, photon torpedoes, missiles (lots of them!), plasma torpedoes and other very unique weapons. Graphics wise, it's good for 2000. All ships are based in the TMP era. The Original races are Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Gorn, Lyran, and Hydran. With some expansions you get the Miraks, the ISC, and the Orion pirates. The squeal is StarFleet Command 3, in which all ships are TNG era. You can customize your ship systems and weapons to be better. The races are Borg, Federation, Klingon, and Romulan. Surprisingly though, the Borg have NOTHING to do with the storyline!
