Perhaps they thought events would simply play out differently this time.

Perhaps, edify. Thats a good theory. Or maybe they got too relaxed. Either way, they made a mistake that was happily resolved anyway!

i think the year of hell is a confusing episode personally so i would be very grateful if anyone could explain it simply to me please *SPOILER WARNING* Well, it's been awhile since I've seen it, but basically the captain of a Krenim destroyer (I don't believe he was name, but he was played by Kurtwood Smith, whom you may know better as the President of the United Federation of Planets from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country) has developed a "wave" device that can instantly change the history of a planet. The Krenim captain has lost his wife, and goes around changing the course of history on several planets in an attempt to change the past in such a way that it will bring his wife back. Voyager encounters this ship, and spends the better part of a year under constant attack by the Krenim (hence the title, "Year of Hell" -- which is also a throwback to the episode "Before and After," in which the future Voyager nicknamed the year of Krenim attacks the year of hell). It's a two-part episode, and by the end of the second part Voyager is badly damaged. Janeway orders a collision course toward the Krenim vessel, in an attempt to destroy it and stop the ship from messing with time. The collision destroys both ships, but it also apparently puts things back to how they were originally, including Voyager meeting the Krenim again "for the first time, for the last time," so to speak (kudos to anyone who gets my reference ). The crews of both ships also have no knowledge of the events of the past year (since they technically hadn't happened yet -- and now they won't). That's basically it, in a nutshell. I wish I could go into more detail, but like I said it's been a long time since I've seen the episode. But it's not nearly as confusing as TNG's "Frame of Mind." I had to watch that episode three or four times to fully comprehend everything that was going on.

I think year of hell was one of the best voyager episodes, right behind the last one, but temporal paradoxes confuse me, but i really like those episodes..........anyway year of hell was fantastic, i really liked when janeway finally gave up and rammed the ship, that saved the entire quadrent.
