I recorded and watched this episode the other day. I found it interesting that voyager would find a planet with humanoid life that was out of time sync with the rest of the universe. They became trapped for a few days when many centuries had past on the planet.

I've never seen that one, although it does sound like an intriguing concept.

The people on the planet were profoundly affected by Voyager's presence being stuck in orbit. It challenged them to make advances in technology and culture.

It is one interesting episode. What I'd like to know is how the Doc ended up having a child.

The child of Doc's was a stepchild. He was down there almost 3 years in the planets time and did make a remark that nearly 3 years was a long time. Janeway remarked that she was in agreement with him.

Actually Jason was not a step child, unless the doc married right after the boy was born. He never told Janeway or anyone else that he had gotten married. He just sort of implied to Janeway that he had a girlfriend. Actually he said "She was my...roommate."
Yes Janeway did agree that 3 years was a long time. The only person he told that he had a child was the alien that was going back to his home planet. He commented that Jason was a strange name (or something to that effect.) The Doc wanted him to look up what had happened to his son,and well the Doc did say it was complicated.

Megara, thanks for the clarification. Unfortunately we never did find out what happened to "Jason". I don't recall them saying anything about him later.

You're welcome. And no, they never did say what happened to Jason or even if he had a family. One of those loose ends they leave in the Trek world. It would be interesting if they did a story about it or something. There are a lot of loose ends in Star Trek that could be tied together to make interesting stories.

Megara....agreed about all those loose ends in star trek. there are so many possibilities on these looses ends as what could happen, but little or no mention of them.

I thnk loose ends are what make it interesting. The viewer is invited to continue imagining what might have happened. If they tied up all the loose ends, what would there be for us to talk about here on the forum?

Even though leaving loose ends in a story raises a lot of questions, you have a good point Atoz about all the specutation than can be done about the "What ifs" concerning a story. It is true that it does give us more to write on this forum about!

It was a neat episode. It is amazing how just the presense of a new 'spot in the sky' (Voyager) could make the inhabitants interested in pushing their self further in life. If this was in TOS that may have something to do with the Prime Directive I would think
