This is a thread for talking about Stargate. I've already said that it's my second favorite sci-fi series, after Star Trek (Dr. Who) squeaking narrowly into third place).

Atoz. I like the Star Gate series as well. I watch it when I can, but have only seen a fraction of the episodes.

The movie "Stargate" (starring Kurt Russell and James Spader), was used loosely as the basis for the series, but the creators of the series developed an elaborate mythology of their own. It turns out that the galaxy is mostly ruled by the Goa'uld (or was, when the series began) , a race of eel-like (or snake-like) parasitic creatures. A Goa'uld burrows into the flesh of a person's neck, attaches itself to the spine, and from that moment, it is completely in control. The victim's brain and consciousness survives, but it is a prisoner in its own body, powerless to do anything. The parasite greatly enhances the body's healing ability (curing diseases and practically halting the aging process), and the Goa'uld as a race have been around so long, they possess superior technology, which they have looted from other cultures..
With that technology they enslave entire planets by claiming to be gods. They even use the names of Earth gods, as Ra did in the movie -- Apophis was their major villain in the early years; later they clashed with Hathor, Chronus, Yu, Osiris, Nirti, Anubis and Baal among others. They travel between planets through a vast network of stargates and in gigantic mother ships. They have a cadre of specially bred humans called Jaffa which they use as footsoldiers in their conquests. The Jaffa believe that the Goa'uld truly are gods, meaning that in addition to living pretty much forever and having magical powers, they are all-knowing. Loyalty will be rewarded in the afterlife, they believe. Disloyalty is punished severely. A Goa'uld can not only torture you to death, but with the use of a Sarcophagus, can bring you back to life and do it again and again and again.
Even so, at the beginning of the series, one Jaffa named Teal'c came over to our side. In time they discovered that there was an underground movement of Jaffa who have been waiting generations for the chance to overthrow these "false gods". This undercurrent was one of things I liked most about the series (struggling in the face of impossible odds against a seemingly unbeatable foe) in the early days.

Jolene Blalock appeared in three or four episodes as the leader of a tribe of Amazon Jaffa (but I couldn't begin to tell you the titles). She looked quite nice with long blonde hair instead of short, dark hair. And I'm sure Amebruz would appreciate the slightly more revealing costume she wore. I don't remember her character's name because, frankly, I still didn't like her character very much.
Let me think....
Rene Auberjonois appeared in "The Other Side", one of my favorite episodes. He was a villain, but he was great.
Dwight Schultz appeared as a character called "The Gamekeeper".
The actor who played Trip Tucker had a recurring role in Stargate:Atlantis as a Wraith named Michael.
I can't think of any others off hand.

As everyone here knows, I stopped watching Stargate: Atlantis after Torri Higginson left (there was just no point). But I might have to watch tonight because Bill Nye the Science Guy is going to be making a guest appearance!
Now, if they could talk him into taking Wolsey's place...

Well, the final episode of Stargate: Atlantis aired last night. I can't say I'm sorry because I lost interest in it a long time ago. They actually brought the city back to Earth and landed it in the Pacific Ocean!
Now we can look forward to a new series, "Stargate Universe". Has anyone heard any rumors about that?

Atoz. I'm going to do a search on line to see if I can find out anything about "Stargate Universe." If I find anything I will post it!

Just a joke. I liked the original three Star Wars movies, but I didn't care for the later three "prequils".

Here are some Star-Gate SG1 jokes about the "Priors of the Ori" I wonder if any of the Priors were named "Prior tuck" ? If a Prior could not go to a planet due to a change of plans, the prior could be said to have a "Prior engagement" I wonder how the "Priors" Prioritize their scheduals?........
