So, if Vulcan is 16 lightyears away from Earth, why didn't we know of their existence until 2063? Wouldn't we have picked up on their radio transmissions 16 or so years after they invented radio?

during that time they were able to mask their warp signature/communications etc. since their technology was able to prevent it plus the radiation from the sun masked it even more because if i remember correctly in order to get to Vulcan from Earth you would have to pass the sun first

The Vulcans probably did use radio, but their transmissions had gone many light years past us before we were able to receive any such transmissions. They were many centuries more advanced than us at the time of first contact, so they would have used subspace communications.

Even though radio waves penetrate things more easily than some other Em radiation, there is still a lot that can block , distort, reflect , and absorb them. What about dark matter or other unknown stellar phenomena. Would radio waves pass right through it or be altered in some way? We don't know enough yet!!!!
I still stick to what I said in my last post about radio waves and the Vulcans!!!
