Nice beginning of a story, but wouldn't it be more interesting and easier to write about an unknown lieutenant instead of someone with so much history? It almost demands that you have seen and read everything about Picard.

Dax, not bad for a start. Use spell check....I do!! Keep writing and be patient and you will improve! Just don't give up if it is something you like to do!

I;m not going to do any more i only like doing the starts of stories not the ends I dont know why. Probably because I can never decide what the end should be so when I pick on out at random it just doesnt feel right.

I know but im not very good at making up stuff. One of the best ways is to take an episode you like and change the ending. What if this happened instead of that? Or what if Picard switched places with Janeway? One small change leads to another, and before you know it you have your own story. That's essentially what I did with "Arachne's Curse". I started with "Who Mourns for Adonais?" and asked What if my starship came across a Greek god, say Athena because she was always my favorite? Right away I have a problem because Apollo was the last of the gods. So what if she left an artifact or a machine behind? Right away I thought of the Aegis. And then I needed conflict. Who's going to fight my crew and why? Eventually I had worked out a basic storyline, and just sat down to write. That's important -- you need at least a basic outline before you start, otherwise you eventually end up in a blind alley and you're stuck.

Only you might consider waiting until the story is finished before you start posting it. You can still post in installments (I like to break the story up so that it's not this massive block of unfriendly text), if you want. It just saves you the embarrassment of having to say, "Gee I can't think of what comes next" to the whole forum. And by the way, you might be interested to know there was a starship Exeter in TOS, a season two episode called "The Omega Glory" (which happens to be my favorite episode).
