Has anyone else seen any of the shows about how Star Trek has influenced the development of technology? Has anyone seen the Star Trek shows, science fact based ones where they discus and show things related to technology under development that is on Star Trek? There have been a number of them over the past few years.
I think the hardest thing to develop in real life would be the Transporter!
Any thoughts, comments, questions are welcome!
One of the shows was called "Star Trek Tech" and one had something to do with how William Shatner changed the world.

Can you say Cellphones. Don't they look like communicators? And they are getting smaller still and smarter, we already have part of the function where you can just say person's name and you get in contact with them.

Cell phones are an excellent example of Star Trek Tech. What happens is that people watch Sci-fi shows and movies and say/think that would be great to have something like this. It inspires creative people to invent things like they saw in Sci-fi so it becomes science fact.
The Bottom line is today's science fiction is tomorrow's science fact....or yesterday's science fiction is today's science fact!

Science fiction influences alot of things that happen in science today including bringing in youths that after seeing some science fiction stuff think"Hey thats cool. I'd like to do something like that one day" and have a future career in science(like myslef)

Yeah, and how about touch sensitive flat screens? That is surely inspired by the LCARS. You know the screen/keyboard from TNG.

I saw a show about Sci-fi writers of the past being referred to as "Visionaries" and this is inclusive of Star Trek! I think it was called something like Sci-fi prophets, but don't recall the exact show title.

Holographic technology is a bit more difficult to get to work.
But I my job as electrician the Star Trek influence is obvious in alarm and sensor systems. And the new wireless electrical installations (In truth it is really just small remotes instead of switches)

Very interesting mac!!
They say that there can actually be a warp drive some day, by effecting space. The space around of a starship would need to be compressed and stretched. The ship is in a bubble of normal space, but the space is moving, expanding and contracting outside the bubble and the speed of light speed limit may one day be indirectly broken.
I'm missing some of the info. It was from "Star Trek Tech" and some other science shows.

I went to visit my Father recently and we discussed how wireless remotes, and the new Xbox 360 Project Natal system could lead to the holographic touch screens from Minority Report

Is it really?
I would rather say that, the refining of technology leads to breakthroughs.
Cause If you look at it from a distance, the last 10 years haven't really presented any new technology, just made the old one better and cheaper.
