I'm inclined to think the folk who think they'll look just like us...humanoid in some way odd... the chances of life else were evolving to look exactly the same as us is not very likely.

Any sentient alien life that may or may not exist may or may not look like us. The little green men have been replaced with little gray ones over the years in this urban legend!

I love the notion that if life can and does exist else were in the cosmos it could be in a myriad of diffrent forms and not all carbon based. I watched a TV show a few months back which was looking in to the notion of how life in other galaxy's could evolve, some of the ideas were amazing, scary but pretty plausable...it makes me wish that deep space travel really was feasible right now *sigh*

The quote that I used to start this topic was from a Gallery magazine interview with UFO author Timothy Green Beckley. Get this -- he said the reason Trekkies don't believe in UFOs is that we're not open-minded enough. "They're snooty and conceited. They are followers. They are sheep."
This from the guy who admitted elsewhere in the interview that he wrote things that he didn't necessarily believe, because he's just trying to sell books.

You have that same problem with a lot of "paranormal" documentaries you see on television (Joe Nickell calls them "CROCKumentaries"). They want high ratings, and they know from experience that most people who believe in the paranormal don't want to see anything skeptical of it. Very rarely will you see a documentary which is even slightly fair and balanced (like "Is it Real?" on the National Geographic Channel).

Most shows dealing with the paranormal are biased and too few are objective in nature. The few that are state that they take no position, but present the evidence so the viewer can decide are the ones I like depending on what the subject is.

I think it is certainly possible for aliens to exist. I'm not a 100% sure if the UFOs that are reported are aliens, though.
I'd like to think aliens do exist, but i'm not sure if they'd be like anything we could understand or maybe they wouldn't be sentient. This is "nerdy" but what if they were like xenomorphs/Zerg? Monstrous animals, moreso then humanoid, intelligent beings?

I think gammaquadrant has a point. Even if other beings existed in space we most likely wouldnt be able to communicate with the or even understand there way of life or anything about it.

Yeah, and consider this, What point would an alien species have in making contact with humans? We are driven by curiosity, what if they are not. We want to find new trade partners, what if we don't have anything they want? And if they are more intelligent than us, having invented FLT flight, then what interest do we hold?
Let's face it, we are alone in this spiral arm, so it is okay to turn the stereo up to max, and dance naked in the living room.

Maybe we could be seen as some kind of zoo, or safari park to the aliens, they could come for a day out to watch us and laugh at how primitive we are. ;D
