So tell me who is looking forward to Xmas? I know I am or at least I hope it will be great. See my Uncle is ill and I am hoping he will be better in time for xmas.

I really hope he gets better. I am not in particular looking forward to Christmas. I will be happy when it is here, but currently, i'm just focused in the now.

I honestly find Christmas to be offensive.
It is a religious practise shared by only a fraction of the worlds population, and we do not celebrate all the holidays of the other religions, so why should we celebrate this?
Are we not suppose to be non-biased?

Thank you J-boy and that seems to be a good thing to be in the now rather then looking to far ahead, good way to be. ^_^ You may be right and I respact what you say. I know a lot of us don't really celebrate it due to what religion we belong in. And if truth be told this will be my second time celebrateing it. See normally I am in hospital so my adopted family dosen't celebrate it unless I am not in there. Long story short I always get ill due to bad inmuse systeme. I also respect your honestly most don't aways say what they feel about things like these. I to hate new years as I always find in my adopted family that I have to make way for new things and getting rid of old things. We have a New Years clear out in our home and don't even celebrate New Years. So it is more work then anything.

To tell the truth I don't really see Christmas as a religious holiday. The celebration originated from a desire to hold back the gloominess of winter, and that's the way I think of it. Even though I'm an atheist, I string lights and put up an artificial evergreen tree, just to remind me of that. I like New Years for the same reason. But yes, I have to admit that the corny holiday movies you see on television this time of year generally turn my stomach.

Lucky you having a T.V I don't nor dose my adopted family have a tv we don't believe in them. Yet we have laptops and yes you guess it the internet. I see most of the things I like on the internet. Or round a mates house. So by the sounds of it I am lucky I don't have a tv to see the stuff on the tv that would turn your stomach.

I'm looking forward to my Christmas meal with my work mates next week. I've not met most of them because I only work with Ian, the boss on Saturdays! I love spending the day with the family even if we all get a bit stressy occasionally because there are far too many of us in far too small a space with excited children. I love carols, and talking about Jesus and well, Christmas is pretty special. It should be noted that for me it is a religious festival as I am a born-again Christian.

I'm not sure how I think of this christmas. I'm moving a week or so before Christmas so everything will be a little awkward this year. Plus a lot of other things that'll make it more awkward then usual. I never saw Christmas as anything other then a family get together.

Lady@ I see still sounds good hope you have fun moving and hope you will like your new home Lady. Arkroyal@ Wow sounds like a lot of family. But also sounds very cool. I love kids they can be fun and sometimes a handful. I am looking foward to the xmas meal me and my friends have at a cafe near where we live. every year we get together and eat there. We have been doing it since we was in the last school where I met most of my friends today. Although it is normally a week later before the xmas week I would go into the hospital but we still meet up for our xmas meal. ^_^

*Atoz* Yeah, originally Christmas was simply called Yule or Blot, depending on the local traditions, but the Xians stole that holy time (political reasons, of course, to get the backwards peasantry into the fold).
Personally, in my religious practise I have to stay up all through the night of the 22nd, just to make sure the sun rises again. (I know, silly, but so is most parts of my religion)
*Atoz & Melody* During this time of year, I usually keep my TV & Radio turned off. (After the first 200 times of hearing Wham's 'Last Christmas' you really understand the proverb 'Silence is gold')
*Arkroyal* I think you know by now, that I have a serious chip on my shoulder in regard to Xians (But because we all are intelligent people, let that sleeping dog lie)
*Melody* Sorry to hear that. (I will happy share a glass of Gløgg with you if you ever come around these parts)
*Lady* hope the move goes smoothly.

I interpreted Melody's question very broadly, as also embracing solstice celebrations. I do actually like to listen to some of the Christmas music (although yes I'd have to agree that hearing the same song played every hour can be nerve-racking. Fortunately there are so many that unless you're tuning into a Christmas-24/7 channel, it's not too bad.
What are some of your favorite carols?

(Can someone tell me what a Xian is? Oh wait...do you mean Christians?)
For some reason one of my favourite carols is the Coventry Carol - sad lyrics but it's the style of music I like I think as I love harmonies.
I enjoy singing the counterpoint melodies to carols too - for quite a long time I found it hard to sing the tune on the last verse of Hark the Herald Angels. I'd never sung it because I was soprano when I was in secondary school - then I threw all the altos by singing the descant when I was in sixth form and had switched to singing alto!

I myself celebrate christmas more as a celebration of winter and spending time with the family. I really like christmas, but maybe thats because im a child..... Apart from the presents which i will admit i do like I like the food, the caroling the feel of it the occasional snow(very occasional here) and also the family gatherings

Thanks Mac Awol, Melody. Family get together are always something that makes Christmas good. Though around my home town most carolers tend too revamp Christmas songs with there own little twist. It's funny when you got a bunch of kids singing "Jingle bell batman smells" at your door.
