Hey, folks. I haven't seen this question being posed on this board (but perhaps it was on the old board). But here goes: Do you consider Star Trek: The Animated Series to be canon? Also, give your reasons for why you do or don't consider it to be canon.
Now, I realize there are good reasons for considering it canon and good reasons for not considering it canon. After all, from what I understand Gene Roddenberry considered everything on the screen to be part of Star Trek canon, but he didn't consider The Animated Series to be.
But here's the thing: certain information used in the live action movies were taken from The Animated Series. Also, The Animated Series, being animated, was able to illustrate things and use stories the original series budget would have never made it possible to use. Plus, considering things like Apollo's hand in space and other strange things occurring on the original series, would it really be that far-fetched to consider TAS to be canon?
Now I know that ultimately it's up to each person to consider it canon or not. But I do. I think TAS should absolutely be considered canon. I have recently only watched it for the first time, but I loved it. In fact, I liked a lot of Animated Series episodes better than I liked some of the live-action Original Series episodes.
So, what's your take? Is it canon, yes or no? And what are your reasons for your opinion?

I quibble that some of the animated episodes play like Saturday morning cartoons ("More Tribbles, More Trouble" is a prime example). But most of the stories were written by regular writers of TOS. Walter Koenig even wrote one. So I'd say, yes, it's more or less canon.

Yeah, not to mention that the entire cast (except for Chekov, due to financial limitations) returned to voice their characters.
