Okay, I thought it would be fun to list all the technology we've seen in Star Trek (mostly the original) and how it has shaped our technology today. Such as communicators (in Star Trek TOS) and cell phones.
What have you noticed? Share them here! ;D

First thing I noticed were the clipboards they carried around in TOS, which with the beneift of hindsight we can see are electronic notepads.

And earpods of course. Although the ones they used on TOS were big and clunky-looking, we can easily set that down to the fashion of the times. Maybe people in the 23rd century liked looking like they had Christmas tree ornaments growing out of their ears!

Now that you mention it, they do? Are you suggesting the people who designed floppy disks tried to make them look like record tapes from Star Trek?

Yes that's what I was thinking since they were about the same size and shape. Of course even floppys are obsolete now. Too bad they didn't imagine flatscreens. That would have been wild.

What's the viewscreen? I thought that was almost like a window that happened to show stuff on it - pretty close to a big flatscreen television? (I might be wrong about that though!)

It could be. Luke is probably thinking of the bulky little communications monitor screens you see in the quarters and in sickbay.
Then again, remember the three-way viewscreens they had in the briefing room? They couldn't possibly have been cathode ray tubes, they must have been flat screens! So I guess we can mark up another prediction for Star Trek, years before anyone thought of it.

Hey you've got a point, Admiral. I guess that bulk in the back must have been for someother reason.
