Hi, I'm new. I'm not sure what to expect here, but I hope I can get a chance to read some interesting stuff and maybe chat a little now and then with likeminded people...
I've recently started watching Star Trek Voyager again, I was watching it as a kid. I'd forgotten how interesting the Star Trek universe was, I called myself a Star Wars fan for a while, but I must admit now I'm a bit of a trekkie as well :3
And I'm a girl. I have no idea of how the man:woman ratio on this forum is. But it doesn't really matter.

Welcome! I'll be the first to greet you - I'm not sure about the gender ratio around here, I've never paid much attention but I CAN tell you I am female. So you're a Voyager fan? Who's your favourite character? (I notice your icon is B'Elanna).

Glad you could join us, Drom! The male/female ratio tends to fluctuate, but right now among regular posters, it seems to be tipping in your favor. There's you, ArkRoyal and Jadis, as opposed to just me and Luke (and possibly Recky).
Is VOY the only Star Trek series you watch?

Nice to meet you, Arkroyal and Atoz I've watched a few of the original series episodes, probably from the first season. It's very different But Spock is really cool as a character and as a vulcan. Tuvok doesn't even come near him in... interestingness. I've been wanting to watch Deep Space Nine for a while now. I've heard it's got things in common with Babylon 5, a series I really like, only a bit darker perhaps? Also, I've seen all the movies with Kirk and Spock in them, and I think I've seen some with Picard too. And I'm one of them who actually likes the newest movie, and I hope they will make a sequel. Though, I admit it hasn't got that Star Trek-y feeling from the earlier movies. I answered a poll somewhere on the forum, about favourite characters. I like Chakotay, B'elanna and Harry Kim. Data is a nice character too, but I've only seen him in movies.

Yes, Spock generally wins favorite character polls hands down for some reason. DS9 and B5 came out at about the same time, and many people have made the accusation that DS9 was stolen from Strazinski's idea. They are similar in concept, about a vast war that sweeps the galaxy, but of course the Star Trek version is very different. Personally, I lost interest in both of them pretty early on.
If you only know Data from the movies, you have GOT to watch more TNG, that's all I can say about that. So now I'm going to ask you the same question I asked Dunkelheit -- which service branch are you in?

I loved B5, at least up to middle 4th season. Then the story got messed up because they had to finish it prematurely. And I will watch TNG, promise And I'll ask the same question as I asked in Dunkelheit's thread, what's the difference between Engineering and Science, really? I've understood that the red people are in command, but never really understood the other difference.

Hey, Drom! Is that short for Andromeda? I was a STar Wars fanatic too, but back in the 80s I hooked up with some guys who had a Star Trek roleplaying game (this was before the internet) and I had to start watching the show to get an idea how to play it. I was hooked!
I think the main differenct between the two is Engineering keeps the ship running and in good repair. They call it Operations these days. Wheras Sciences is more about pure science research and discovery.

Aha, well in that case I'm probably Science. Since I'm studying biochemistry. Drom is just a short and sweet name I like. It doesn't really mean anything

I loved B5, at least up to middle 4th season. Then the story got messed up because they had to finish it prematurely. I had always heard that B5 had been planned from the beginning to run exactly 5 seasons. I stopped watching for the opposite reason. Along about season 3, it looked to me as if nothing was really happening, as if they were stretching the stories out to make them last longer. You know what I still can't figure out? How was Kosh poisoned in the very first episode if he was really an energy being as was later revealed?

It was planned that way, yes, but they didn't have enough money so they made a hasty ending in 4th season and changed some storylines, and then they for some reason had money to do another season anyway, so the last season was kind of boring (my favourite character wasn't in it anymore) and just tied up the last loose ends.
Haha, I always simply thought that you can get poisioned anyways. Though I don't think they are beings of "energy". I think that's just how humans perceive them.

What kind of biochemistry are you studying? I mean for what purpose? Is it medical related or more agricultural?

It's very theoretical so far. It's not really medical, more industrial, like for inventing new medicines and alter proteins.

Have you had the chance to see any more TNG or TOS episodes yet? What do you think?
