Once again I've got the germ of an idea for a story, but I can't decide which way to go with it. This is the premise: a starship is helping with an archeaological survey. The planet once HAD a civilization about the technology level of the Aztecs, but sensor scans show all humanoid life died out about 900 years ago. The ship is exploring the ruins hoping to find the reason they died out. But for a couple of mornings, when the away team beams down, they find things they left overnight had been tampered with. A security sweep turns up humanoid footprints, creatures who only come out at night.
I partly got the idea from the TNG episode "Identity Crisis". My first thought was the people had been infected by spores that mutated them into nocturnal creatures that were transparent to sensors. And then eventually some of the away team would start to mutate. But now I'm not sure I like this idea. There has to be conflict to make it interesting. Does anyone have any other ideas?

okay off the top of my head if they were zombies they woulnd't show up on sensors as living things, would they? Here's another idea you might think about... djinnuniverse.com These folks claim that djinns are really interdimensional creatures that are trying to force there way to EArth.

I thought of zombies, but I don't think the supernatural goes well with Star Trek. If you can come up with a scientific explanation for how a dead body can be animated, I'll consider it.
What's up with the djinns? Are these guys serious? It takes all kinds, doesn't it?

It's not looking very good at the moment. How about if we BOTH do a Star Trek story for Halloween, using a common theme? Say, zombies or mummies?

Yes. We could make the challenge just to write a Halloween story, but I find that constricting the field a little bit makes it easier to come up with an idea. So let's limit it to "the walking dead", which would include zombies or mummies as the case may be. Sound good?

Take your time. As long as you begin posting it by Oct 31st it would fit the definition of a Halloween story.

This morning it's 38 to 28! To be fair, yours runs to seven installments, and mine only goes to five. I really liked Lt. Solari. Is she based on anybody in particular?
