I saw this movie the other day and one thing I STILL don't get! The Enterprise crashes on Veridian 3, right? Then the temporal nexus hits. Wouldn't the entire crew be in the nexus with them then? Why couldn't Picard just go and round up Riker, Troi and the others?

The whole point of the movie was to let Picard and Kirk "ride to the rescue" together. I think you're right that the way the writers managed it didn't make a lot of sense. (I believe I have stated elsewhere that the movies, apart from special effects budgets, were far inferior to the series itself, and this is just one example. )
Here's another thing: Picard was only able to go back in time and stop Soran because inside the Nexus "time has no meaning". OK, so he and Kirk successfully prevent Soran's plan, and the planet never does get swallowed by the Nexus. So in that case, where did Kirk come from? You could easily make the case that, logically, Picard must STILL be trapped inside the Nexus. The Kirk that he met was no more real than his imaginary family, and that the entire scenario was just another illusion the Nexus generated to keep him happy. The same would go for anything that happened after that, including the last two movies, "Insurrenction" and "Nemesis"!

There's a bright side. That means Data's still alive! Or... shoot! No, he would have been swallowed up by the Nexus along with everyone else! What if the Nexus was very very narrow, so it only got Picard and Soran?

the nexus didnt pass through the whole planet, only where soran and picard were located. The enterprise was destroyed from the sun going supernova, so they didn't end up in the nexus at all, picard was just able to go back before soran launched the missile and attempt to stop him again with kirk. That being said, there would have been no way picard could have got their help.

It's possible the Nexus was narrow enough that only the hemisphere Picard and Soran were on was affected. But that raises another problem.
If the sun going nova was what deflected the Nexus in the first place, then the shockwave from the nova would have struck the planet first, wouldn't it? In that case Soran and Picard should have been killed before the Nexus could reach them!

from what it showed in the movie, the nexus travelled through the system right before it went nova, once it was clear of the planet, then it went nova

But wasn't the whole point of Soran's plot to destroy the sun, thus nudging the Nexus over so that it WOULD pass through the planet? It's been a long time since I've seen the movie, but that's what I thought was going on.

My fav part was when Soran looked up and actually SAW the nexus coming so ooooh he only had seconds to launch the missiles and destroy the sun! lol They forget when you blow somethingup its mass doesnt just instantly disappear! Even a supernova it would take time for the mass of the star to dissipatE!

A lot of science fiction movies make the same mistake. Remember the Stargate episode where the Replicators had taken over a Soviet submarine? And O'Neill's solution was to blow it up! Huh? Unless they had a nuclear bomb, that would only sink the submarine, and the Replicators would still be there.

Sometimes I think the writers don't realize how smart the viewers are.
I've got a question about this movie but it's not directly related to the subject being discussed. Why was Whoopi Goldberg not included in the credits? I don't think I've seen her name even in the end credits. Was her name in the credits for Nemesis, because she was in that movie as well.

Gosh it's been so long. I can see it not being in the opening credits because she had such a small role in it. But it should have been in the end credits. And in Nemesis she just had what they call a "cameo" and just one line if I recall. -- "Nope. Thirty seven was my limit."

I'm almost certain it's not in the credits. When they start showing the cast credits at the end there is a section for main cast, Star Fleet crew (including the Enterprise B, like Capt. Harriman and Demora Sulu) and a section for El Aurian refugees. Then other cast include Picard's wife and kids from his dream world in the Nexus. I'll have to go back and check to make sure, but I think there is even a cast credit for the little girl who dropped her teddy bear. She (Whoopi) could have been included in any of those sections.

I just recently got the dvd's for the four Next Generation movies, and I saw "Generations" again. I remember one of the things I didn't like about it was Kirk's dying words. I can see him saying, "It was the least I could do for the captain of the Enterprise." That's fine. But then he said, "It was fun." Every time I've seen this movie, I thought that was out of place. It's "fun" getting killed? But maybe it was just the time lapse because I hadn't seen the movie in a while, but this time it suddenly clicked. That wasn't Kirk saying that, it was Shatner saying that, a sort of a good-bye to the fans. "It's been fun being Captain Kirk." So it's not completely out of place.
It still sort of grates on my nerves though, because for a long time I've held a strict separation in my mind between Shatner and the character he plays.
