Hi - I know it's been awhile since I've visited but I just discovered this and wanted to get your guys feedback on it. Has anyone seen or heard of this? And if so, what are your thoughts? I thought it was interesting and liked how they brought back the guest actor, however, I'm not to sure about Spock... vimeo.com/startrekcontinues/stc-e01www.startrekcontinues.com/"The new Star Trek Continues Web Series carries on the original 5-year mission. Looks kind of nice! Spock does look more Oriental in this version, but I know that might be a good thing.

Its not somuch what they look like is if they act like them. That's what i didn't like aobut PHase II. I saw one episoed and it looked like whoever wrote it had only seen ST enough times to get the characters names down.

But it was pretty interesting to see how they brought back the look of Trek with the sets and the lighting. I thought the actor who played Kirk was pretty convincing and he actually portrayed some of Shatner's mannerisms. With Spock it wasn't so much the look (although he looked very different than Nimoy), but it was his voice that threw me off. I liked how Jame's son played Scottie and I thought he did a good job. Overall, I thought it was a great effort and I wouldn't mind seeing future episodes...as they might improve on the whole concept as they go along.

It definitely looks promising. I'd rather watch this that Abrams' version!

this kind of creeps me out. probably because i didn't grow up with TOS, but i would prefer them to leave it as it is.

I DID grow up on the original, and I have to say that Paramount's NuTrek movie left a bad taste in my mouth. I'd much rather watch something that was done simply out of love, like this was.

Like you I did not grow up with TOS either and to be honest I've never much cared for it anyway. I'm a pretty big Patrick Stewart fan and TNG is what I watched in my youth (I say that as if I'm somehow old)
I would love to see a TNG take on this idea but I can't see that ever happening consistently. TOS makes more sense because of budget concerns; lets face it TOS was a bit crap which I actually think is the charm of the show. Everything was taped together with a light bulb inside where as in TNG a concise effort was made with set building.
William Shatner can't act particularly either in my humble opinion and is just a ridiculous person of whom I'm not keen on, just look at how appalling 'Boston legal' is. As great as Leonard Nimoy and James Doohan where I never felt that they offset how bad Kirk was. That said and at the risk off drifting off the point; I'm not an advocate of TOS BUT I do advocate anything that advances the genre for the better and after poking my nose at this I must admit it seems promising and anyone is an improvement on Shatner, at least for me.

I respectfully disagree with you about Shatner. He was the glue that held the original series together, and there was nothing wrong with his acting style. Sure, later on he may have been frustrated by typecasting. He seemed to just give up on acting, to judge by his appearances in various movies of the 70s. I CRINGE when I see him on Boston Legal or those stupid Priceline commercials.

Maybe he was the glue I would bend to your wisdom more on this as I have not watched it so often as you. I just find the man generally irritating. But I completely agree with your point about typecasting.

William Shatner paved the way for Star Trek to become what it is, and to be fair to him it was the 60's when it was made so the acting might seem a little farfetched He is a legend and a Canadian! so I can't hate him at all haha. I couldn't imagine him or even Nimoy trying to live up to current acting demands.

I think it's possible to dislike an actor and still like the character he portrays. I like and admire James Kirk. But if I was told that William Shatner today was going to make an appearance in my home town and all I had to do was cross the street, I'm not sure I'd make the trip, know what I mean? I can see why younger people might not like TOS because of the relatively cheap sets, costumes and effects. But as I say, I grew up on it, so I literally do not notice all that. In the 70s we had to take a lot for granted. I'm more likely to notice a plot device that doesn't make sense.
