You forgot Cardassians. And the Founders should probably be there, too.
What do you mean by "dominating"?

Ah! You are right, I did forget Cardassians, and Ferengi, and the Q, and the Founders, and so many more I can't remember them all. Apparently my mind was very blank at the moment. About the dominating thing, grammatical error, my bad. I meant the most highly populated, the most technologically advanced, and the most popular.

The most popular? Roman of course! (I mean, human...)

I'm Human, so I have to vote for myself. But as far as populous goes, I seem to remember Spock once telling McCoy, "....humanoids represent a very tiny minority in this galaxy."

Vulcans would probably be my second choice.

Klingon species are a warrior race, if they stopped fighting amongst themselves or actually attempted to conquer the human race, i'm sure they would succeed. The federation as we know it are more concerned with making friends, and exploration. It is a weakness anyone would take advantage of. The Q would never be dominate because they have laws stating they can not do so, so to speak. They are immortal, what more do they need? The Borg were destroyed, so it kind of scratches that out. Romulans cower in their own quarters, as long as they are living, I doubt they much care. The Bajoran have been inferior since the Cardassian war. Unfortunately they haven't been given the chance to grow or move out of their homeworld, so they would never be dominate. As for the founders, well its interesting to think about. If they weren't retarted and trusted the cardassians, they might have taken full control of the alpha quadrant, since they had control of the gamma quadrant. One other group i thought would have made a huge impact was Species 8472. If they weren't annihilated, they would have done serious damage.

Thing is with that is that they attempt to make friends with a species, not knowing whether they are a hostile race or not, leaving them vulnerable

I definitely agree that trusting too much may be a severe disadvantage in some situations, but on the other hand building up as wide a range of friends and allies as possible would tend to balance that.
At the same time, a race which conquers by force has its own problems. It has to guard its conquered planets all times or they will revolt. Which means there is only so far an empire like that can extend itself before it becomes weak (this probably explains why the Klingons never conquered the Alpha Quadrant).

How do you figure that? Oh, I see. Are you thinking of the sequence of events in the movie "The Undiscovered Country"?

I voted human because in the context of the federation, they are shown to be in control of many things. In the context of the Galaxy, universe it depends on where and who is involved. Another factor in my vote for humanity is that humans can be genetically enhanced ( augments), to be far superior to races that are stronger/longer lived/ smarter than average humans. Its too bad most of the genetically enhanced humans are selfish, evil, and power hungry. I have another though about humans. What if before the Neanderthals became extinct here on earth some of them were taken by ancient space faring aliens to some unknown place far away.
