Naturally there was the puzzle of how the Borg got to our quadrant of the galaxy so quickly, but I suppose if they had subspace conduits even then, that would answer that question.

On one hand I,too, feel that DS9 should have encountered the borg. On the other hand, the Borg were so overused in Star Trek Voyager, some people give "credit" to DS9 for not using them. Besides, the Dominion became much more threatening in DS9 than the Borg were in Voyager....by a long shot.

I personally tend to agree that the Borg were overused. I never particularly liked them, and I'm glad Janeway wiped them out. Didn't she?

I don't think the Borg were wiped out, to be honest. Also, as others stated, the Borg were in "Emissary" but only through flashback. While I agree the Borg were overused, I really wish there was one episode with them in DS9. Sisko's history with them were interesting and I think a lot of people would have found it interesting to see a Borg v. Dominion fight. Also, the Defiant was in Star Trek: First Contact. So I guess you can say the Borg were kind of in DS9.

In my mind, the implication of that last episode was that Janeway's virus had destroyed the Borg Queen, and since she had repeatedly stated that she WAS the Borg, I assumed that meant the Borg were gone, too. I don't mean that they were necessarily destroyed in a physical sense, but that the subspace link that made them a threat was no more.
I keep thinking of the first half of that episode, where Barclay was lecturing students on the Borg. I got the impression that this was a History class, and he was telling them about what the Borg used to be like!

I to would have liked to see a battle between the Borg and Dominion. I think the Jem-Hadar attack ships would have made suicide runs into Borg cubes and spheres to disable and destroy them. This may not have work though. The Borg could have stopped the Dominion ships from ramming them with tractor beams or other means. Hand to hand combat between Borg drones and Jem-Hadar would have been intersting to. I think a Jem-Hadar drone would be a very formidable in combat that is if any were assimilated. The Vorta would have made good Borg drones as far as I can tell.

What would the implications be if the Borg assimilated one of the Changelings?

Atoz. If the Borg had been able to assimilate a Changeling, I believe it would have made the Borg far more powerful! A shape shifting Drone Would be an extreme threat!!

I was thinking of how Odo had to periodically revert to a sort of liquid form. Wouldn't that upset all the cybernetic implants? It seems like every cell in a Changeling's body can change its form and function at will, so it's possible the very nature of Changelings makes them immune to being assimilated.

You have a good point Atoz about the changeling's and the cybernetic implants being interfered with! If a Changeling could assimilated into the Borg collective, it is possible it could change to some smaller extent without disrupting the cybernetic implants. As far as the Changeling's having to revert to a liquid form, I'm not sure if the Borg could adapt some technology so this won't interfere with the cybernetic implants. This is just speculation though! This could be further discussed in your "exobiology 101" thread as well.

Well, Exobiology 101 is for the Original Series...
I still think the nature of Changeling's biology would make them resistant to assimiliation. And the Borg probably wouldn't want to assimiliate a race like them. But I don't know much about how the nanoprobes worked.

Atoz. About the "nano probes" They could replicate themselves like the "Nanites" in one of the Next generation episodes. The nano probes could be modified for other medical purposes. This happened at least a few times on "Voyager".

I keep thinking of the first half of that episode, where Barclay was lecturing students on the Borg. I got the impression that this was a History class, and he was telling them about what the Borg used to be like! That future was undone by Admiral Janeway. As for Changelings being assimilated... Personally, I'm not sure if a Founder can be assimilated by the Borg. However, I think it is possible for them to adapt and find a way to assimilate a Founder. A shape-shifter would greatly lead towards perfection (whatever that means).

I'm only saying that the Borg seem more concerned with cybernetic enhancements rather than biological perfection. On the other hand, if you were a shapechanger you wouldn't need cybernetic enhancements. That's why I'm not sure. There are good arguments for both points of view.

I agree that there are very valid points on both sides of this issue! We may never really find the answers to these questions! We can only speculate about them at this point!
