J.J. Abrams didn't really destroy the franchise and it's actually more the opposite when he brought back life to the dying brand. indeed....cant argue with that statement in any way

I love the film but now that I've seen more Trek, I've started seeing it from the old fans pov better.
However, yes, it did reinvigorate the brand. After all, before I saw that film, Star Trek was a barely remembered programme from my childhood (Voyager to be more specific) and I couldn't be bothered with it.
Then I saw the film, came here, found the re-runs of the later four on Virgin, got hooked. Before the film I'd've gone "Pfft, Trek. Whatever."
Now, I'm planning a film marathon to watch films 2, 3 and 4 on Saturday! (I've been planning it all week, stopped me going completely insane from the amount of coursework!)
Edit as of much later: Saw 2, 3 and 4. AM IN LOVE. <3 Especially with Wrath of Khan. God, it's AWESOME.

personally after reading numerous posts on here im not a fan of the new film because it destroys the original idea of star trek in my opinion but i also see it is a good thing because now the federation may not become the federation we know it could become closer to the dreaded terran empire and seeing as vulcan's were influential in the rise of the federation the balace of power in the alpha quardrant may have been shifted considerably which should make for something more interesting i just hope the q are in the new star treks but i must admit i wish they would finish off picards era like they did with kirk

They keep saying they're working on another Abrams movie. But personally I could care less. I've got my TOS dvds!

Yes, but the stories themselves are nothing really special. The Motion Picture was basically a remake of "The Changeling", for example. "Wrath of Khan" isn't bad, but there are all kinds of mistakes in it.

Well yes. Even that one had an unfortunately cavalier attitude towards the Prime Directive, a serious flaw in my opinion. But it was fun to watch, I'll give it that.

That woulndt be a good excuse for violating the Prime Directive, but we can assume that Scott knew about when transp aluminum was invented and that it wouldn't screw things up too badly if it came a little sooner. At least I hope we can assume that!
