So this is the name of the ship they have in the new movie. What do you think? Did that ship get destroyed then they got a new one named Enterprise? I always assumed they would use Enterprise right away.

Yeah...I actually didn't know that. I assumed it was enterprise too. It looks like the same ship...doesn't it?

I'm pretty sure the Kelvin is only at the start of the movie. The Enterprise appears later with the normal crew. If I remember correctly the Kelvin gets destroyed. My guess is that Faran Tahir plays the captain of this ship. He's on IMDB if you don't know who he is.

I honestly thought you meant the spoiler tag as in just *spoiler* or something. I'm glad you used it because i totally forgot.

I'll add one more thing about the Kelvin, but I don't think it's a spoiler because I'm just taking a guess. I think it's a ship with a totally different crew that only appears during a battle, probably near the beginning of the movie. I'm assuming none of the Enterprise crew are on this ship. I have one other possible explanation. For anyone who's watched the trailers, Captain Pike says to Kirk "Your father was the captain of a starship for 12 minutes, and he saved 800 lives"...or something like that. Maybe Kirk's dad was briefly the captain of the Kelvin?

In the Original Series, they established that there were only 12 ships like the Enterprise (jConstitution class), and they went a fair way towards giving their names. Just judging from the name, I would guess that the Kelvin would be a lightly-armed science vessel, similar to the Grissom from "THe Search for Spock".

That is a very ugly ship. I really dont like the look of it. It's the nacels that ruin it.
