The USS Kelvin is an interesting looking ship with a lower engineering section and on large upper nacelle. I am anxious for the movie to come out to see what happens to it! As far as how fast it goes. I don't think it would be as fast as the original Enterprise, which was capable of warp 9 on the old warp scale, which is just under warp 8 on the newer warp scale. I remember what Kirk said about the Constitution class ships and how many there were at the time. He said there were 12 other like it. I don't remember the name of the episode though that he said this in. More would have been built afterward.

In "Tomorrow is Yesterday", he was telling Capt. Christopher that there were only 12. Starfleet certainly constructed more during the big exploration phase of the 23rd century, but the movie supposedly takes place earlier, is what I'm saying.
Let me think... there was the Constellation, the Exeter, the Defiant, the Lexington, the Hood, the Excalibur, and the Potemkin that we actually saw. and of course there must have been a Constitution, too.

You have a good memory for the "Constitution class star ships" atoz. I will look this up in my Star Trek encyclopedia to see if there were anymore. We could also look it up on-line to.

I'm pretty sure the Enterprise is going to be in the movie, too. I'm sure I saw a picture of the ship somewhere.

I don't want to say too much about the movie, because I'm not sure what some of you consider spoilers. I've tried my best to stay away from learning too many details about the movie. I want to be surprised at what happens. But I will say that the Enterprise is definitely in this movie. I don't want people to misunderstand that and then boycott the movie or something, lol. The Kelvin isn't the main ship in Star Trek XI (at least I don't think it is).

Thanks for clearing this up Mr Data! I was thinking the new movie had been released in Europe already! I must have been mis-informed!

So this is the name of the ship they have in the new movie. What do you think? Did that ship get destroyed then they got a new one named Enterprise? I always assumed they would use Enterprise right away. it turned out that the ship is enterprise the kelvin was the ship that kirks father was captain of for 12 muinuts
