Oh, did they? I'm still waiting for someone to explain how Kirk can graduate from the Academy and immediately meet people who should be 15 years younger than him. Scotty and McCoy I could understand, but the year Kirk left the Academy, Chekov should be about 7 years old! Uhura and Sulu would probably have been about 12. The only explanation I've heard so far amounts to "well, it's an alternate timeline, dude, so it doesn't have to make sense."

Well I stick with it doesn't have to make sense. But Chekov says he's 17 years old.

That's the thing -- I expect a Star Trek story to be logical. I've read reviews both pro and con (here, at StarTrek.com, and other places). The people who don't like it cite specific flaws in the story that spoiled it for them, and the way it sounds, I would probably notice those same flaws. I'll see the movie one of these days -- I'm just saying I'm not in any particular hurry.

I have to agree...I love when stories or story lines are consistant. That's one thing that bugs me when movies are made and a major actor is replaced...there goes the "reality" of the show.

I'm relieved to see I'm not the only one with a few doubts about the movie, I did enjoy watching it but found myself mouthing the words "whats the heck!" when the story line went way off.... my daughter (who has never watched much of the original series) thought the movie was great and has seen it quite a few times now. It will eventually get added to my collection but wont be my fav movie.

I will be seeing the new movie in 2-3 days, but since I will be on vacation, I will post what I think of it the mid-part of next week when I get back.

From what I know so far, I will enjoy the movie , but the errors will bother me!

I did see the new movie the other day. I did like it for the most part, but as I thought the changes bothered me! there also was a bit too much violence in it at parts. I did like seeing the older Spock interact with the younger Kirk and himself!

That's the first time I've heard someone complain about the violence. It's not much at all compared to most other things out there. I'm glad you liked it.

I suppose it's all just in relation to what else someone has seen and what they may consider to be appropriate or not.

I'm my daughter (who has never watched much of the original series) thought the movie was great and has seen it quite a few times now. Maybe that's why my views are different to yours - as I stated in my introduction I'm also not particularly familiar with the original series and I absolutely loved the film. I must admit I did have a "is it supposed to be like that...?" reaction a couple of times but...I loved the film in general. Also, I was a bit surprised at the number of times Kirk generally got beaten up but didn't really think it too violet myself but yes, I can see why some people would think it was.
