Interesting idea about B4 and La Forge. I know B4 will never reach the level of advancement as Data because his positronic brain wasn't as complex as Data's because he was built first. I have wondered how far he could advance??...that is if he ever decides he wants to!

I got the impression that B4 was like a small child and that he saw no need for self improvement. This is clear from his response to others when questioned about such things.

I just didn't understand why they didn't replace Data with another actor of the same body build, after all Data's appearance was just artificial.
And after the damage he took during 'First Contact' they had a perfect chance.

Yes your right they could of just replaced the actor although he might not of had the same kind of style as Brent.

Dont turn him into a Doctor who type character, its sad but you just have to let them die at some point, besides i tend to feel a little closure when a character dies, and also i think that was probably the best way Data could've died

Yeah it was the best way for data to die. He died to save a friend, so truly understanding what it is to be human and in his last few seconds he became more human than he was ever before

*Shudders at the thought of David Tennant playing Data* Also, it's just best to forget B4.

Probably should just forget B4 really your right Kijuro, perhaps because he is less advanced than Data and therefore not considered sentient they'll let the Daystrom institute ravage that android

I did some research because I got the impression that the actor who played Data Brent Spiner had passed away from some of the above posts, but this is not the case. Maybe he didn't want to play Data anymore so they killed off the character and B4 is just too dumb to want to play.....just speculation!

I cried too! Thank you for setting up this thread. I always thought that i was the only one who cried when Data died. At least i was the only one crying in the cinema at that time! Still have to fight back the tears everytime i watch the ending. Found this on Wikipedia "Spiner reprised his role of Data in the Star Trek: Enterprise series finale "These Are the Voyages..." in an off-screen speaking part. Spiner felt that he has visibly aged out of the role and that Data was best presented as a youthful figure." That's why data was killed off. Here's the link if you guys want to read more, half of it you'll already know though. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_(Star_Trek)(It also says about B4 and what happens to Spot after Data's death)

there certainly have been some touching moments through the years in trek. i still remember that absolute shock when tasha was killed so suddenly. i was in highschool then and totally didnt expect that. but i dont think any moment in all of star trek saddened me as much as that moment when i realised data had actually perished. i remember sitting through the whole credits just waiting for that last scene with some give away. i was like there is no way! NO WAY!
