Then of course Gary Mitchell's "psionic" powers were imposed upon him artifically by that "energy barrier" they passed through. It could simply be that he was somehow "possessed" to a certain degree by some kind of being who was imprisoned there -- a being who was able to confer all those powers on him without being able to exert its own will. What do you think?

Personally, I have experienced enough to be a firm believer in psionic abilities.
And while the theory about electro-magnetic waves has merit, it doesn't explain everything.
There must be something else at work.

There are a lot of unexplained phenomenon, which people will come up with all kinds of explanations for. I am some what skeptical, but don't discount these matters either. It would take quite a few posts for me to explain in detail, but I have had some personal experiences with the so called para normal. I hold back judgment until I have more info, but I do speculate about these issues.

As I Find This Fascinating My Self, As I Have Psionic Abilities That Come Easily To Me. But I Dont Always Use Them, I Tend To find It More Pleasing Using My Own Abilities. **Levitates Mac Off Of The Ground**

I thought I would bump this thread back to the top, since we have a couple of new members who I thought might be interested. Skai, for example, is a Vulcan, and perhaps she can tell us more about mind melds and how they are used.

Okay, here's a similar subject. In the TOS episode "A Private Little War", Kirk was bitten by a mugato and suffered from its poisonous bite. There was no known antitoxin, but Tyree's "Kahn-ut-tu" woman cured him with something that looked suspiciously like a mind meld. It seems like their "souls" had to "join", which somehow got rid of the poison. As a doctor, do you have any speculation about what was going on here?

I think it's high time we revived this topic. I was thinking about the TNG episode "The Drumhead", where Adm. Satie's Betazoid aide declared that Crewman Tarses was lying about "something". Using this as a pressure tactic, they finally got him to confess that his grandfather was a Romulan and not a Vulcan as he had previously said.
I can't help but wonder how much empirical evidence there is in the reliability of telepathic contact. For example, we first saw a mind meld in "Dagger of the Mind", when Simon van Gelder was unable to talk about the goings on at Tantalus Penal colony because of a sort of mind block that Tristan Adams had placed on him. Spock used a mind fusion, presumably to help bypass the damaged areas of his brain, but it was Van Gelder doing all the talking.
Later, in "Devil in the Dark", Spock used a mind meld with the Horta, a silicon based lifeform, and with it was able to find out all kinds of things about the Horta's lifestyle, even where she had hidden the perfusion pump. But since the Horta isn't capable of vocal communication, we only have Spock's word for this. How much was reliable, how much was misinterpretation, how much was pure fantasy that Spock made up? How do we know?

We may never really know for sure. I would say there is a lot more to telepathy than just the exchange of words!!! Pictures , intent and emotions could be transfered back and forth or sensed by say a Betazoid for example. A Vulcan mind meld is very personal and intimate, but I get the impression that it is only a partial melding of minds sometimes.

I would think, since Vulcans are a private people, that they didn't wanna go all the way sometimes, not for the preservation of other people's privacy as the Betazoids practice, but to protect their own privacy. (It took them years to embrace Mind meld as a tool.)

I'd like to point out that Vulcans had telepatic powers before the 'Time of Awakening.' It's mentioned in Gambit, Part 2.

I'd like to point out that Vulcans had telepathic powers before the 'Time of Awakening.' It's mentioned in Gambit, Part 2. Good catch! I remember this to. the ancient Vulcans made psionic resonators to kill their enemies. the device only worked on some on when they were thinking and acting violently. It was ineffective against Captain Picard and the away team because he found out that from the symbols on the psionic resonator that thinking peaceful passive thoughts acted as a shield.
